Into the Woods, Jr.
The lives of fairy-tale favorites intertwine in Into the Woods, Jr., a kid-friendly take on Stephen Sondheim’s fractured fable. Youngsters meet Jack before he climbs up the beanstalk, learn why Cinderella wants to attend the king’s party, find out who packed Red Riding Hood’s lunch—and what they all have in common with a certain wicked witch. At the center of the story are the baker and his wife, whose wish to have a child sends them on a life-changing journey where, for once, no one gets turned into a frog.
An Egyptian art-deco style anchors the Cameo Theatre, luring wandering eyes with polychrome accents, gilt columns, and a sphinx that permits entry only after guests solve a riddle. A surviving artifact of the 1940s, the theater first opened as a home for vaudeville acts and movies but has since filled its stage with a diverse roster of legendary performers from B.B. King to Metallica, and it now regularly hosts theatrical productions.
