Performances and Times

The Ryan Case 1873

On the busy modern streets of New York, a historical murder has just occurred. In what Neil Genzlinger of the New York Times calls “a particularly fine example” of an audience-participation murder mystery, creative director Carlo D’Amore and crew don the period costumes of suspects, victims, cops, and witnesses while weaving an enigma pulled from the police blotters of yore. The members of the walking audience must stay hot on the crew’s heels as they move from their starting point bar through city parks and other sites, and back to the bar. A brother and sister are discovered brutally murdered in their apartment in The Ryan Case 1873, a dramatization of an unsolved crime in what was once the Irish slum Five Points. The surrounding streets harbor such persons of interest as the unfortunate duo’s landlord, the landlord’s wife, and a few ladies of negotiable affections, all of whom may or may not be trusted.

The Lombardi Case 1975

The Lombardi Case 1975 evinces the immortality of evil with a nefarious tale cobbled together from a number of actual cases and seasoned with a pinch of fiction. A senator’s daughter is discovered slain in a den of addicts and miscreants. Pimps, prostitutes, junkies, and drug dealers lurk along the tour’s path, dropping subtle clues to those sharp enough to recognize them, but the greatest danger may, in fact, be waiting in the corrupt upper ranks of the police department. Guests must try to solve the case before the commissioner fires their chief and forces them to peel the gum from their shoes.

About Live In Theater Productions

Murder mysteries should be anything but silly. That’s the view espoused by Live In Theater Productions, the brainchild of prolific actor and playwright Carlo D'Amore. Eschewing the goofy tone of some other shows, Live In Theater plunges participants into cases that take their immersive details from unsolved, historical murders in New York. Showgoers make their way along the city streets where the real crimes once took place, interrogating actors playing roles ranging from 19th-century Irish slumlords to strung-out 1970s junkies. Each event plays out differently as the amateur sleuths weigh evidence, pursue leads, and finally find some use for their pocket-sized polygraphs, creating a one-of-a-kind adventure that earned a 2012 Drama Desk nomination for Unique Theatrical Experience.
