The Tulsa Ballet’s internationally trained dancers leap and twirl through a mix of modern, fresh choreography and classical fundamentals atop Chapman Music Hall’s grand stage. As reported in Tulsa World, the company’s production of The Nutcracker reinterprets the holiday classic as a fantastical romance that calls to mind the magic of 1920s Paris as effectively as pulling a rabbit out of a beret. Company principal Soo Youn Cho and first-year Argentinian soloist Sofia Menteguiaga will share the lead role of Marie while gliding through artistic director Marcello Angelini’s acclaimed choreography set to Tchaikovsky’s immortal score. In addition to dazzling solos and pas de deux, the ballet will fill the stage with 120 local children to recreate the battle between the Mouse King and Nutcracker, teaching young audiences and their teddy bears about the follies of war.
