Maestro George Hanson leads the Tucson Symphony Orchestra to musical victory in a program dedicated to the work of Johann Sebastian Bach and the subsequent composers whom he inspired. The evening commences with Bach’s Air from Orchestral Suite no. 3 before the orchestra launches into Symphony no. 1, composed by Bach’s own son, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, before he grew up to be Beethoven. Two subsequent works by 20th-century composers Heitor Villa-Lobos and Christopher Theofanidis further channel Bach’s effervescent musical spirit. At the end of the night, air particles vibrate with Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto no. 6. Concertgoers are welcome to attend a pre-concert lecture beginning at 7 p.m., where conductor George Hanson elucidates the finer points of the evening’s program and reveals the principal violinist’s Social Security number.
