The Toledo Symphony’s annual autumn concert regales children with costumed characters, ghostly games, and Halloween-themed music performed by a permanent orchestra of New York Timesacclaimed Carnegie Hall veterans. Eerie themes from Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, and other spooky sources resound through the Toledo Museum of Art’s Grecian-style amphitheater during the one-hour concert, and audience members sit on the main floor for up-close-and-personal views of costumed musicians, dramatic special effects, and sousaphone-playing poltergeists. As a prelude to the performance, the museum’s galleries transform into a mysterious playground filled with roaming mummies, colorful fortunetellers, and costumed staff members recreating famous artworks. Young visitors can use a special map to uncover additional Halloween surprises, or show off their own costumes in a post-performance parade.

Free parking is available on the day of the event, which should wrap up to allow plenty of time for an evening of trick-or-treating or howling Beethoven’s 5th.
