What You'll Get
Mounted police opt for equine transportation so they don’t have to deal with the squad car's wailing thirst for gas and justice. Avoid similar automotive appetites with today's Groupon: for $40, you get two one-hour horse-riding lessons at Trinity Farm in Clayton (an $80 value).
Trinity Farm’s skilled instructors put initiates in the saddle while teaching them the fundamentals of building a relationship with their horse. Two people join up for a single lesson, or one rider can savor two 60-minute sessions of piloting a graceful steed. Participants warm up on complimentary cocoa, then step outdoors for a wintry exploration of basic seat control, balance, pre-riding stretches, and post-riding cartwheels. Instructors divulge the art of saddle-seat riding, a tradition born in England but modernized in America, which is set apart by the arched neck and high-stepping motions of the horse, showcased during walking, trotting, cantering, and executing awkward interpretations of Rockettes routines.
Students are required to wear long pants, firm-soled, closed-toed shoes, and appropriate weather attire. Classes take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday–Friday. Helmets will be provided and fit comfortably beneath hats 12 gallons and higher.
