Q&A with Henry Mcmillan, Co-founder/teacher
Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
Because practicing yoga is always a personal progression, it never gets boring. The more students come, the more they wonder how they survived without yoga in the past. Once they see their strength increase and their anxiety decrease, students come back again and again for more.
What is a typical session of your program or class like for a student?
A typical class begins with some easy stretching and builds into a flow-sequence of poses that heats up the body and calms the mind. From here, depending on whatever level the student is, we will work on a series of arm balances, standing balances and core work all to the beat of an eclectic playlist of music. Each class will wind down with some restorative poses finishing in a final savasana, which helps to ground the mind and let the body rest at the very end of class.
When and how did you first develop a passion for fitness?
Hollywood Power Yoga is a partnership between four teachers who met at another Los Angeles studio a few years ago. Their relationship and passion for a vigorous workout—combined with a shared goal of freeing themselves of the negative aspects of the mind—led them to open this yoga studio.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Hollywood Power Yoga is a growing community of yoga lovers who simply want to improve the quality of their lives through exercise and conscious breathing. It is very much a judgement-free place that focuses on each individual's path to a better self in the midst of a community of people.
