Pupils don form-fitting shorts and tank tops for dance-oriented fitness classes that range from Basic Pole to burlesque. Pole-centric sessions focus on flirty maneuvers that build the core, quad, and forearm muscles needed to support body weight. Burlesque classes teach bawdy, fun, and artful dance routines that blend humor and seduction. See the full class schedule.
Jennifer Kennedy, the owner and head instructor of JMK Entertainment, is no stranger to the spotlight. She practiced graceful steps as a performer on Caribbean cruise ships and has been teaching dance for more than three decades. Joined by a team of instructors with lengthy histories in dance, she continues to champion the health-boosting effects of the graceful art with an added element: the pole.
Her Basic Pole classes dust off glimmers of sensuality and teach the foundational moves needed for full-fledged routines or Flag Day pageants. The more advanced Booty Beat Pole folds 10 basic steps into a cardio workout, and sets the routine to high-energy music. Jennifer's teachers also cultivate fitness and whimsy at burlesque, belly-dance, and cardio-chair-fitness classes.
Flirt-filled sessions kick off in an airy industrial space softened by exposed wooden beams overhead, with sunlight streaming through a skylight and large windows. Before and after class, guests can kick back in the waiting area's leather couches while mentally rehearsing moves or packing poles back into Mary Poppins–style gym bags.
