Just as books shouldn't be judged by their covers, jerk chicken shouldn't be judged by its critical personality. Savor snappy eats with today's Groupon: for $17, you get $35 worth of authentic Caribbean cuisine at Kassava.
Kassava blends the passion fruits and flavors of the former French Antilles with the spices and savories of Jamaican cuisine, forming a multifarious menu praised by palates and the Los Angeles Times. Brightly clothed tables aptly unite vibrant tastes, such as those of the slow-cooked coconut chicken ($10.95 lunch, $13.95 dinner) and those of the jerk tilapia fillets ($17.95 lunch, $19.95 dinner), which are grilled at an unknown velocity. A selection of sides escort entrees, including fried sweet potatoes ($4.50), Jamaican festival bread ($1.85), and rice in the form of white ($3.25), brown ($3.75), black ($5.35), and worried. While noses savor fresh air out on the patio, mouths can savor fresh fruits with a coconut-pineapple shake ($5.25) or a ginger/pineapple juice ($4.50).
Kassava is the brainchild of owners Marie France Levostre and Pras Michel (of the hip-hop group The Fugees), the first people to create offspring using only a brain. The restaurant combines their backgrounds and shared interest in cherishing the flavors of the islands.
