About Chicago First Dates

LA First Dates has been pairing singles with potential soulmates since 2007. The company fast-tracks first encounters by holding two to five speed-dating events per week, each divided by age group and other demographics. During events, participants spend five minutes mingling with each of the other people and secretly record the name of the person they like. If two names match, the organizers pass along their contact information so the two can schedule follow-up encounters.

The speed dating experience itself was fun, you get to meet all types of professionals. I would suggest that the hostess be more interactive with the group as a whole, such as giving the group a short talk before starting the timer. She just directed the men to sit at the individual tables where the women were and started the timer. At the end, it would have been nice to give the group a one minute closing talk and give us details of what to look forward to etc. even though we knew how the process works. It just didn't feel as fun without the interaction from the hostess. It just seemed she was there to do her job by ringing the bell every 5 min and collecting our name sheet in the end.

Horribly organized and managed. Start time was 7pm; the HOSTESS didn't show up till 7:15pm! Thirteen women and only 7 men--I doubt that 8 men didn't show. No markers at "stations," so men didn't know which way to go. AND--if the Hostess said something particularly bone-headed and you commented on it, the men knew how ornery you were!
