What You'll Get

The traditional method for preparing sushi requires slices of raw fish to be held over unlit fires in order to secure that signature “uncooked” flavor. Explore such innovative foodsmithing with today’s Groupon: for $25, you get $50 worth of creative sushi, drinks, and more at Mas Sake, located in the Marina district.

Mas Sake serves up a menu of entrees and creative specialty rolls, such as the Rodman roll (California topped with hamachi and maguro, $14) and the three amigos roll (maguro, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, and cucumber, $10). The edible lineup features standard nigiri, entrees such as the teriyaki filet mignon ($21), and "freestyle sushi tacos” such as the seared ahi tuna (with cilantro, cheese and onions, $13). It is a well-known fact that the best cure for a watering mouth is more liquid; adhere to the laws of nature with a house-specialty sake bomb ($4) or thirst-quenching draft beer ($6).

The restaurant is a hip and happening hotspot where the music pumps loudly and local young adults pack the place, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Sultry lighting in the dining room makes the sunset colors of the paint and decor glow like a snowman made from radioactive waste. In keeping with the brilliance, fast and friendly waitresses in glittery tank tops wait to happily take your order or bring out the next round. The place fills up fast, so reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.

Redeemable starting Sunday, July 25. Cannot be applied to $25 all-you-can-eat.

Mas Sake was featured in the San Francisco Chronicle and Gayot:

  • It seems that somebody decided that sushi and burritos have a lot in common. So out come the "freestyle sushi rolls," which are really burritos cut into slices. Not that the young locals seem to mind. They pack the 100-seat restaurant every night, giving it a lively buzz. – Robin Davis, San Francisco Chronicle

More than 380 Yelpers and more than 30 Citysearchers give Mas Sake an average of three stars. Sixty-two percent of Urbanspooners like it, and OpenTable reviewers give it an average of 3.9 stars:

  • Definetly [sic] one of the perfect night club/night life place in the city -good drank [sic], good people watching, good service! Sushi is delish! -the only negative, is that it might get too crowded! – Mario M., Yelp

About Mas Sake

Mas Sake performs its fusion of Japanese and Mexican cuisines from its perch in the Marina district. Within the high-energy establishment, chefs craft both traditional Japanese fare, including teriyaki dishes and sashimi, as well as sushi that twists in flavors of preserved lemon, Cajun shrimp, jalapeno, and piñata. Conversely, chefs roll hand-made tortillas around sushi-grade ahi to render Japanese-tinged tacos.

Mas Sake hosts a festive whappy hour on weekdays, when libation lovers can slake thirst on cocktails, beers, and sake bombs. The restaurant's dim lighting swathes plush booths and wooden fixtures in a large dining room fit for both intimate dinners and celebrations.
