Growling stomachs can hamper stealth operations, spoil belly dances, and, in extreme cases, induce dogs to attack. Quiet whimpering tummy tones with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of fine American cuisine and drinks at The Mill Street Bistro Bar in Norwalk.

The Mill Street Bistro Bar gladdens gourmet palates with extensive menus made up of locally sourced meat and veggies. Bargoers can sink teeth into the elk sloppy joe with shredded elk—farmed exclusively for The Mill Street Bistro Bar at the River Ranch—resting on a brioche bun and topped with french-fried onions ($10). Evening diners can whet appetites with starters like the rosemary skewered scallops ($11) or the spinach salad, topped with a balsamic hot bacon dressing and garnished with chopped egg and fresh mushrooms from the Huron-based Chef's Garden ($8). House-smoked meats can be ordered to alleviate aged protein cravings, though prices and availability vary by smokehouse output and waiter's pre-shift tarot reading.

The delectable fare can be washed down with Mill Street's sprawling wine list, with glasses of red and white available for $5 to $7.50 per receptacle. Larger parties and wine-fueled thinking machines can find greater value in the bottles ($15–$155), with a curated selection of 20 bottles for $20 each. Martinis furnish a soupçon of sophistication ($8–$10), and locally brewed Great Lakes beer pairs admirably with its edible native brethren ($2.75). Meals are enjoyed amongst the trappings of a converted 1847 steam mill, with a courtyard patio for al-fresco feasts and convenient between-course UFO watching.

Mill Street Bistro Bar

Inside the former mill that is now Mill Street Bistro Bar, servers deliver entrees of buffalo, beef, and elk sourced directly from the owner's farm. In addition to handcrafting locally sourced entrees that have included pan-fried Lake Erie perch and beer-brined, center-cut pork chops, the chefs also flambé cherries jubilee tableside for dessert. Post-dinner patrons may meander to the outdoor patio to smoke an imported cigar from the restaurant's humidor.

A lot of the reviews for this place were negative, which is a shame cause I almost didn't try it. I am very happy I did! The place is beautiful, the food and drinks were very good, and the staff was warm and inviting. I would definitely recommend Mill Street Bistro.
