About Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum
In 1929, Pequot Grand Chief Sachem Silverstar visited a New Hampshire second-grade classroom and changed Charles Thompson's life forever. What Chief Silverstar said was simple yet powerful: everyone has the power to make the world a better place. Little Charles sat with this idea until the following summer, when he visited his grandfather's Connecticut farm and unearthed an arrowhead. In that moment, he committed his life to studying the culture and history of indigenous Americans.
Today, the museum introduces visitors to the full scope of Native American cultural expression and influence—spanning more than 20,000 years. The Northeastern Woodlands gallery showcases local artifacts, from birch-bark containers to moose-hair embroidery, whereas the Southwest gallery displays Pueblo pottery and Navajo textiles.
