The food is excellent althought the portions are very small for the steep price paid. Upon being seated I immediately ordered a glass of red wine. Later the same waiter came to take my order and after telling him what I wanted he asked if I'd like anything to drink and I told him that I had already ordered a glass of wine from him. By the time I arrived at the restaurant at 9:20 p.m. they had already run out of the leg of lamb entree which is why I wanted to eat there in the first place and use the Groupon. They had also run out of rabbit. They ran out of two of their most popular items. People must really like this place as every table except one was occupied when I arrived at 9:20 p.m. I enjoyed the meal of salmon on a bed of julienned vegetables very much. The sauce that accompanied it was out of this world. I highly recommend this restaurant in spite of the fact that the waiter forgot my wine order right off the bat. As I was seated in front of the window facing Broadway (I sat facing the interior of the restaurant) and very close to the computer/cashier station I could easily get the waiter's attention which I did several times during the course of my meal. He even switched my chair for me as the back had a steep incline so much so that I thought it was broken. The replacement chair was identical so I just sat upright instead of sitting way back in the chair at what was an uncomfortable angle for me. However after enjoying my meal and before dessert I relaxed into the incline of the chair and at that point I could appreciate why the chair was designed that way. The apple tart tasted as if it had been microwaved as the apples had a mushy texture so the dessert was a huge disappointment even though the main course was wonderful.

We actually went to Cafe du Soleil, but I'm assuming it comes through under this name. The food was excellent, atmosphere very nice. Overall a very pleasant experience. Appreciated having the discount.

What You'll Get

The Statue of Liberty, a gift from France to the U.S., was in fact a Trojan horse, designed to loose Parisian chefs on an unsuspecting populace. See how these 19th-century chefs' delicious doings live on with today's Groupon. For $20, you get $40 worth of food and drink at Café du Soleil, located in the Upper West Side.

Café du Soleil brings to mind and mouth the appetizing ambience of a French bistro, without the stumping mathematical riddles of the real thing. Leave graphing calculators at home, and instead key in to the authentic French flavors of Café du Soleil's dinner menu, the tastechild of Chef Matthew Tivy. The mussels main course ($19.95), served with garlic french fries, bathes farm-raised Newfoundland steamed mussels in your choice of white wine and shallots, fresh tomato sauce with garlic and basil, or Thai curry coconut broth, while a dozen escargots ($16.95), baked in a classic garlic herb butter sauce, showcase a savory use for snails other than as horses in beetle chariot races. Opt for the organic awesomeness of a salmon filet covered in dijon mustard sauce with cauliflower potato puree and braised leaks ($23.95), or tongue-lasso in the free-range, red-wine-braised chicken of the coq au vin ($21.95), with mushrooms and pearl onions. Café du Soleil's desserts dig deep into France's dominating bullpen of pastries and puddings, with the cocoa vin ($8.95), a warm flourless chocolate cake with an orange wine sauce and toasted hazelnuts, emerging as the reliable closer.

With wide windows letting in the shine of the soleil, white tablecloths lending a pristine elegance, and rectangular mirrors lining the cream-colored walls, Café du Soleil transports diners to the romantically conflicted cobblestone streets of Hemingway's Paris. Soak in the summertime weather with a meal on the café's outdoor terrace, or shadow a walking bassline at Café du Soleil's live jazz performances on Saturday nights. Obtenez votre Groupon et visitez le Café du Soleil pour la cuisine française délicieuse je vous remercie de me traduire.

  • Cafe Soleil is very French and absolutely amazing. The Escargot, the Mussels, and wow the Garlic Fries are all absolutely incredible. Practically worth a trip to New York themselves. – TravSSanDiego, TripAdvisor
