The instructors at Passport Pilates lead small groups through workouts combining ballet barre, Pilates & TRX suspension training exercises. During signature 50-minute Fit Barre sessions, instructors guide students of all skill levels through a warm-up to loosen muscles before introducing intervals on the ballet barre, mat, or in the grips of the studio’s TRX suspension system, which elevates limbs for body-resistance workouts. Each interval targets a specific muscle group, works it to fatigue, and then soothes it with a stretch and whispered lullabies.
By keeping the student-to-teacher ratio low during each class, instructors ensure they can oversee each student’s progress, monitoring for proper form and safe technique. Instructors demonstrate modified versions of baseline moves, helping to ease first-timers into a new routine like a mother horse teaches her foal to start a conga line. With continued practice, Fit Barre sessions can help students to build strength and reap the body-lengthening benefits of ballet, Pilates, and swallowing a skyscraper.

About Passport Pilates
After the surgeries and treatments that helped her overcome breast cancer, Kathy Jannino-Faino lost some of the range of motion she had cultivated as a part-time fitness instructor. Rehabilitating on the Reformer—Pilates’s signature resistance apparatus—she discovered a workout that she loved enough to turn into a full-time career. She now helms 3 of her own welcoming, friendly, and professional pilates studios, where she and her team offer Private & Duet training, and Small Group Apparatus classes that strengthen, rehabilitate and tone.
Beyond Pilates, the studio’s staff members also teach interval-format TRX, Stick-Barre classes that fuse Pilates with sports conditioning to firm specific problem areas. For a class that incorporates more intensive cardio, students can participate in fast-paced circuit pilates workouts that jet from Reformer work to barre exercise to TRX suspension training inspired by Hitchcock films.
