The DEXA—or dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry—bone-density and body-composition analysis measures two things: bone density and fat content versus lean-muscle mass. The bone density test helps predict individuals’ risk for developing fractures or osteoporosis. Customers should wear loose-fitting clothing without metal zippers or snaps on the day of the appointment, as well as leave all jewelry at home or with a stranger who has an honest face. Those taking medications for osteopenia or osteoporosis should not take them on the day of the test.
