What You'll Get
Without dance, people could only hum along to “Macarena,” and Jane Austen characters would be forced to say what was really on their minds. Let movements speak with today’s Groupon to Rhythm Dance Company. Choose between the following options:
- For $7, you get one swing-dance class (up to a $15 value).
- For $20, you get a month of weekly swing-dance classes (up to a $50 value).<p>
The award-winning instructors of Rhythm Dance Company’s Rhythm Project channel their passion for vintage boogie into weekly swing lessons, tutoring students to jump and jive in four experience levels. Beginners acclimate to old-time grooves and practice maneuvering around bulky phonographs in level-one classes, in which instructors impart the fundamentals of east coast swing. Dancers with a firm grasp on east coast maneuvers can move on to level two, teaching their torsos the lindy hop’s swing outs, turns, and spins or sending heels flying skyward with the 1930s charleston. Patrons can select their preferred style of focus for the level-two courses, in which instructors spend a month on each dance with a minimum of four classes per month.
For pupils already fluent in all three schools of swing, level three and four classes supplement shimmying knowhow with advanced techniques such as performance choreography and quickly enacting Swan Lake after throwing a partner into the stratosphere. Monthly class schedules outline dates and times for each level, and customers should register for their desired sessions online. Those hoping to hone their hip-bumps can attend Rhythm’s Saturday social dances for a $5 fee, in which swing DJs pump out classic jams from 8:15 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. or until fingers are tangled into celtic knots due to too much hand jiving.
