The original Sagamore Inn opened in 1900, so you'd expect it to have an interesting history. Catastrophic fire? Check. Colorful owners? Check. In 1963, Joseph and Shirley Pagliarani bought and stabilized the restaurant, growing it into a local landmark famous for its seafood platters, Italian dishes, and pan-gravy-slathered pot roast that's still so popular it could run for town president.
Today, Michael and Suzanne Bilodeau run the show, building upon the legacy left by Joseph and Shirley. The menu features many of the same dishes that entrenched Sagamore Inn in the local dining scene—in fact, many of the cooks in the kitchen are the same, too. Still anchoring the restaurant's spread are fried seafood and northern Italian dishes, including hand-breaded clams and veal parmesan topped with housemade sauce and baked with mozzarella. Such hearty dishes are especially enticing when it gets cold, like after Thanksgiving, which also happens to be when Sagamore Inn starts selling fresh Christmas trees and wreaths.
