About Sailing Vessel Blue Moon
SV Blue Moon's crew sails between California and Hawaii a couple times each year, to raise awareness about and research the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. They are highly aware of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch's significance to the environment and are willing to share their knowledge with others. Their mission is to show what the Great Pacific Garbage Patch looks like and how it influences the climate. The crew takes photos and videos above and below the water in the great Pacific garbage Patch.SV Blue Moon collects data and samples for NASA, NOAA, the University of Hawaii, the Smithsonian, and more. Its mission is to show what the Great Pacific Garbage Patch looks like and how it influences our environment and the climate. Offered in conjunction with OPDERA, www.opdera.org, they offer fun sailing cruises and as much or as little information about plastic waste in the world's ocean that you would like to discuss. SV Blue Moon and her crew participate in the ocean yacht races between California and Hawaii each year, the Pacific Cup and the Trans Pacific Cup. SV Blue Moon and her crew have won several awards in these yacht races, including the Trans Pacific Celestial Navigation award, literally sailing by the stars from California to Hawaii.
