Servers appear to lack requisite formal training and experience in customer food and beverage services. Servers approach service with a casual, PT high school job. Perhaps there is no management oversight to provide quality assurance. The service is incongruent with the overall quality of the venue. The customer should never, ever have to ask for service ware and napkins when served a meal.

What You'll Get

Cooking, like taking a pop quiz and defusing a bomb on national television, is often a source of stress. Disarm your hunger with today’s Groupon: for $39, you get a prix fixe Thai meal for two at Sala Restaurant in Hercules (up to a $96 total value). The prix fixe meal includes:

  • One appetizer (up to a $12 value)
  • Two entrees (up to a $35 value each)
  • Two signature cocktails or sodas (up to a $7 value each)<p>

Sala wardrobes seafood favorites such as crab, crawfish, and clams in a livery of Thai flavors, serving its menu of piscatorial delights in a historical dining room or on a patio bathed in sea breezes wafting in from the San Pablo Bay. White linens welcome unclad ghosts and starter plates, such as the tempura-battered thai crispy pumpkin or the bacon-wrapped prawns, readying unsuspecting taste buds for main courses including the whole dungeness crab dripping with savory garlic sauce, the Mango Sassy trout accented with tropical salad and chili. Mouth wrestle the Sala Steamers entrees—sea-plucked fare such as king- or snow-crab legs—swimming in a selection of sauces, which, like toothpaste marketed to tacos, are available in mild, medium, or hot.

Located inside a Hercules Powder Company house built in 1917, Sala regales visitors’ eyes with flower window boxes, café lighting, and historical artifacts, such as the 1917 time-capsule newspaper discovered in the walls during construction. For waterfront views, guests can feast at one of the outdoor tables or wear their fish-tank goggles.
