Chef Luigi DeNunzio of Al Boccalino leads small, hands-on classes limited to 10 people, showing students how to carefully prepare two types of pasta and sauces. An additional three courses will also be produced by the class. The exact menu changes, but all sessions conclude with students sitting down to devour the feast they’ve helped to create. Classes can be scheduled starting at 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Participants must be 18 or older. Weekend classes fill quickly; customers are encouraged to register for these sessions immediately after purchasing their Groupon.

Seattle's Little Italy Al Boccalino

Growing up in the Italian port town of Brindisi, Luigi DeNunzio frequented the colorful outdoor markets with his father. Surrounded by stalls bursting with local produce, meat, fish, and dairy, Luigi discovered his love of rustic cuisine composed from the freshest regional ingredients. After immigrating to Seattle in 1977, Luigi amassed experience in both cooking and business while working at a handful of the city's Italian restaurants. In 1989, he opened Al Boccalino, where tables covered in white linen host plates of hearty Italian fare. Since then, Luigi has expanded his oeuvre to include cooking classes as well as a second, more casual eatery, Cafรฉ Bengodi.

“Absolutely loved my experience at Al Boccalino cooking class! Luigi and the chef who helped my class with the cooking were very warm and friendly. They really took the time to make sure everyone had something to do and explained the history of Italian cooking and gave great cooking tips. I love that they also added humor to the cooking class. I will definitely be returning for another cooking class.”

  • “Social Cooking Class. Everyone plays a part in the meal. So Delicious and Very Fun! Highly recommend. The owner is hilarious as well.”
