While growing up in a small country town in Pennsylvania, James Christie dreamt that one day he would play professional soccer. Years of practice eventually paid off in the form of a scholarship to play D1 soccer at Philadelphia University, where he was named team captain and played on the under 20 national team.
Then, his dream came true, and the Baltimore Blast selected him to play for the team. Unfortunately, injuries cut his career short after three years, and he became a personal trainer in New York City. In 2006, some of James' personal-training clients asked him to teach their kids soccer. They also wanted him to help improve their kids' overall fitness and give them a break from indoor activities such as playing video games and making a saddle for the dog.
James now runs Soc Roc, which teaches soccer skills to kids while emphasizing core, upper- and lower-body strength, flexibility, endurance, and good posture. Sessions take place at various locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, including Central Park. Along with delivering professional-grade advice and strategy, he prides himself on making sure each kid feels happy and confident.
