We love the food and are so, so happy to have Standard India in the neighborhood. And the follow-up phone to see how everything was really made a a great impression.

Delivery was quick and both the Saag Paneer and Chicken Tikka Masala delicious! Spices are at the balance of your specification.

Love the service! As their dining room is closed for renovation, they are accepting Groupons for delivery orders. The woman on the phone was so helpful and nice, and when I said I'd eaten there before, she offered me a free appetizer or dessert. I'd been having a very hard day and this experience made it so much better. And the food, as always, was delicious!

What You'll Get

Unlike cinematic love scenes, Indian food can be enjoyed in the company of parents without embarrassment. Dodge future moments of uneasiness with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of Indian cuisine at Standard India Restaurant. For 30 years, Standard India Restaurant has been a Chicago institution of fine Indian dishes and dining, boasting a capacious menu of magnanimous delishes lovingly assorted for meat lovers, veggies, and vegans alike. Diners are invited to bring their own imbibements as they savor the sabjis, such as the succulent muttar paneer, a mildly spicy curry dish dotted with sweet peas ($8.95). Chow on the luscious gosht vindaloo for a spicier sauce surrounding lamb cubes and potatoes ($9.95). The tender, marinated chicken in the curried murgh makhani ($9.95) pairs perfectly with piping-hot garlic naan ($5.95). The inviting, ceremonial service is just as warm as the culturally infused food. If the walls could enunciate, they’d flaunt the fact that famous noses such as Madonna and Michael Jackson whiffed paneer here, the same place where Michael Jordan noshed on kebabs and the masala-inspired Roger Ebert coined the phrase “girl power!”

About Standard India Restaurant

When Madonna, Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, and Roger Ebert have all dined at the same restaurant, and guests praise their attentive service and attention to detail Check, Please!, it says something. It speaks to the food's quality, the establishment's longevity, and the clientele's diversity. Newly redesigned after more than 30 years in business, Standard India Restaurant is one of the oldest Indian eateries in Chicago, one of the first in the country to offer thali-style dining, and one of the few independent restaurants anywhere that's fed more than one million guests since its inception.

Originally established on Devon Avenue by Pardip and Bimla Kamboj, Standard India has since changed locations and been passed to their son and daughter, who perpetuate Standard's success with the same traditional, freshly prepared North Indian fare. In addition to their popular all-you-can-eat grand buffet, Standard promotes an innovative and authentic thali experience, during which diners eat from frequently refilled sterling-silver tins that Denise brought back from New Delhi.

In the kitchen, chicken, lamb, and seafood sizzle in a handcrafted clay tandoor, and chefs expertly spice vegetarian- and vegan-friendly curries as well as gluten-free dishes. All meals can be paired with the guest's choice of beverage, as the eatery boasts a BYOB policy free from irksome corkage fees.
