What You'll Get
A grape is a juicy orb that produces sweet sustenance, much like the potato or the hamster ball. For $20, today's Groupon gets you $40 worth of wines and cheeses at The Grapevine in Willow Glen, a tasting bar that has a rotating menu of boutique wines and cheeses. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays, The Grapevine offers a charming tasting room as well as a petitely elegant outdoor garden for the enjoyment of wine and general countryside merriment.
The wine bar's wine, cheese, and small-plate menu rotates two to three times a month, so locals can get a comprehensive understanding of various wines. While the menu may change by the time you visit The Grapevine, the sort of fare you'll be in store for runs the gamut from gourmet grilled cheese sliders ($5 for three) to savory olé flatbread with basil, prosciutto, a balsamic reduction, and shaved Manchego cheese ($5), as well as the sweet marriage of imported brie and homemade fig sauce ($6).
Light bites of artisan cheeses (cut to order) provide the perfect foundation to a fleet of wine flights like the band of Random Reds that delivers samples of Muns, Pinot Noir, Januik, Merlot, Tre Ricci, and Cabernet Sauvignon ($18). Flirt with flights or fill your cup from a long list of whites and reds from both California and international vineyards. Try a 2008 Argentinean Xumek Chardonnay ($6) or indulge in a 2006 Kathryn Kennedy Syrah from the Santa Cruz Mountains ($9) before telling friends and admirers that you've tasted the sacred ambrosias from the rocky cliffs of California.
