This restaurant left us scratching our heads. Lovely room. Patient, earnest, but poorly trained server -- it was not his fault. The restaurant substituted items without notice; e.g., a cosmo cocktail that looked like lemonade -- no cranberry juice, so the bartender substituted lemon juice and acted offended when asked what is this drink. Same thing happened with an item on the food menu. The online menu is not updated, so there was only one entree choice we wanted. Three stars because the steak was great. Hint to the chefs: when you are fawning over your fellow visiting chefs, parading out dish after dish with breathless anticipation of their reaction, in a nearly empty restaurant you might acknowledge the presence of paying guest with a brief "hello, how is everything?

Food and wine were delicious and service was good. Wonderful date spot! Shame they're closing at the end of the month.

About The Luminary

After cutting his teeth in the kitchens of culinary greats like Richard Blais and Kevin Rathbun, chef Eli Kirshtein has grown into his own. The Atlanta native and Top Chef alum opened The Luminary, a modern American brasserie in the Krog Street Market. The restaurant's menu draws heavily from Kirshtein's traditional French-style training, but includes familiar Southern ingredients. The French style is also reflected in the restaurant's design—clean subway tiles and low lighting set the mood for an intimate dining experience at one of the tables, on the 400-square-foot patio, or at the raw bar, which is always stocked with the freshest oysters and shellfish available.
