Watsu combines the gentle bodywork of massage with the healing warmth and increased range of motion found in a heated pool.
Watsu New York
In the warm pool at Harbin Hot Spring in 1980, massage therapy instructor Harold Dull discovered something that would change his understanding of bodywork forever. During one of his Zen Shiastu classes, he abandoned the massage table for the pool, floating students in warm water while applying the modality's stretches and moves. In doing so, he combined the therapeutic effects of the massage with the calming properties of the heated water. He named the practice Watsu, and created the first form of aquatic bodywork in the process.
Now practiced in clinics and spas around the world, Watsu brings this combination of massage and flotation to countless loyal clients. Performed regularly at Watsu New York, this modality encourages healing through greater freedom of movement, deeper relaxation, and lower activity from the neuromuscular system.
