  • Haunted Trail Of Horrors
The forests around Middle Island are pretty peaceful during most of the year. But come October, screams start coming from the trees—reminding townsfolk of the tale of Hilton and Jasper Abelwhite. According to legend, this father and son lived in the woods behind Nathaniel Johnson's farm, where things mysteriously went missing: first it was chickens, then some crops, and then people—but at least no dogs were harmed. The Middle Island Fire Department's Haunted Trail of Horrors takes brave visitors into the heart of this story. For 15–20 minutes, they intrepidly follow a dimly lit path that leads to where the Abelwhites had their camp, and there are plenty of scares along the way. Though the terrors change every year, you can check out photos from past trails to get a taste of what's in store.
