Sourcing most of its daily fish selections from Tokyo's Tsukiji fish market, Tsukiji Sushi Bar & Restaurant whips up a menu of fresh, inventive nigiri, sashimi, and maki, along with small plates and daily specials. Delectable nigiri and sashimi options include tender pieces of yellowtail hamachi ($5.95–$14) and unagi ($5.50–$13), which serve as tasty snacks as well as comfy boxing-glove padding. Those who prefer their sushi draped in a rice coverlet can choose from more than 25 maki options, such as the Sunnyside roll, filled with spicy crab, avocado, cucumber, and shrimp tempura ($13.50), and the spicy scallop, with masago and spicy aioli ($8). Tsukiji Sushi Bar & Restaurant also offers wines and sake from around the globe, as well as Japanese beers Asahi and Sapporo ($4 small; $7 large) to complement dishes and splash onto napping dates’ faces.

Roy Lui and Chanel Liu, expert fish purveyors and Tsukiji Sushi Bar & Restaurant's proprietors, place veteran chef Haruo Komatsu at the helm of a kitchen stocked with fresh fish and tender Koshihikari rice. Sourced from the enormous Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo, sushi staples including albacore tuna, salmon, and eel curl up in sleeping bags of salty rice and seaweed alongside more exotic offerings such as sea urchin, flying-fish roe, giant clam, and lightly grilled submarine. At the sushi bar, chef Komatsu awes onlookers in seven nearby seats as he deftly slices rolls and doles them out for immediate consumption.

Terrific food and inspired specials. I a semi-regular and it puzzles me that Tsikiji has been in business for a few years they don't seem to be able to developed a professional wait staff or system. I overlook that unless its crowded and wait for a half an hour between course with two gentle reminders. I will return though!

Awesome! Very Japanese. Right up there with Sushi Ran but much cheaper. Definitely going back often.
