About Ty Caton Vineyards
It's almost surprising that Ty Caton isn't in the bottle-making business—after all, he's involved with every other step in his wine's journey from soil to the glass. He exercises complete control over his vintages by using only grapes grown on his own estate and has produced a suite of wines that reflect the land that produced them. Among those wines are some of the Sonoma Valley's most lauded reds and whites. The 2013 chardonnay earned Double Gold status at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition—the largest of its type—and the Ballfield Syrah took home the gold at the same competition.
But if you think the wine has an impressive résumé, just wait until you see the vineyard. The 40 acres are split into 21 different blocks, chosen for their various sun exposures, soil types, and altitudes to guarantee each grape has access to the environment it needs to flourish. With a visit to the tasting room, you may ask Ty himself about the process as he often mans the bar, pouring samples of his flagship wine, the award-winning TyTanium red blend.
