Great location, but that’s about it! Location is one of the best on views at Berkeley, right by the waters. Great morning run or evening sunset walk. But, that’s about it! Hotel itself is dated..in need of a renovation. Upon check in, was given a room with someone still in it..hence, card key did not work. After checked in, there was no hot water in another room given. Luckily, front desk service was friendly and handed me a warm-baked cookie. Will return should I be in the Berkeley area, only as a default option.

Very bad experience at arrival - double payment issue I arrived at the DoubleTree by Hilton Berkeley Marina yesterday, 22nd October 2025, after a very long journey. I had made my reservation through Booking.com. At check-in, the hotel requested a payment of $814 to cover the stay and a refundable deposit. I made the payment via Apple Pay from my account, and the amount was immediately deducted. However, the hotel’s system showed the payment as declined, and the staff insisted I pay again. Despite showing proof that the first payment was deducted from my account, I was told there was nothing they could do and was asked to make another payment of $814 using my card with chip and PIN. Both payments were deducted, and I now have to go through a the process to recover the first amount. After such a long journey, the situation was very stressful, and the lack of understanding or assistance from the staff was truly disappointing. This could have been handled with far more professionalism and care.

Don’t Expect Any Room Service Here—Or Any Service for That Matter Hardly ever write any reviews, but felt compelled to share. Google information says this hotel offers room service. Called the front desk to find out what time room service ended and was told before 10 PM. Press the button on the phone in the room marked “room service”, and after three tries where I was sent to a mailbox where I was offered to leave a message, was finally delivered to the restaurant. I was then informed by a very terse woman that room service was not offered here and I could be free to pick it up if I wanted. Since I was placed in a remote building far from the restaurant, as a single woman in the dark, I declined to walk outside and go pick up some food. I guess it does not pay to be a Hilton Diamond Member at this hotel. Called the front desk to get some clarification and was informed by someone else they haven’t offered room service for three years and they just haven’t updated their website. Was told we must’ve been speaking with someone who wasn’t knowledgeable about the policy. Guess I’ll be eating pretzels for dinner.

Good and Ick THE GOOD AND THE ICK: GOOD--Surrounding area for walkers and runners and the two times I have stayed I experienced very friendly staff (not 5-star, but that is not what I expected/needed). Rooms are fine. First stay, repair needs and worn but ok; this stay, fresher room. ICK—The ever-present (terrible) fragrance in common areas. I'd rather no fragrance at all as with most fine hotels. What are they covering up? Soooo grateful there were NO fragrances in my room, or that'd be a deal killer.

Could be better As a diamond member I always hate delivering a mediocre review, however…First the good. Free upgrade to a suite. Staff was excellent. Nice dark bedroom. Beautiful grounds and location. Then the strange. Enormous living room oddly and sparsely furnished. Why is this microwave perched on a tiny cocktail table? Why is the coffee situation perched atop the microwave? Why is the carpet between the bathroom and bedroom sopping wet? Why is the lotion inside the shower? Why are there two long skinny balconies that you can’t sit on unless the chair is turned sideways? Then the annoying. Loudest elevator ever rumbles the room. Bedroom is small comparatively and stuffy. Dudes in next room repeatedly hammering on something metal for hours. $40 parking when 85% of guests drove there. Just include it in the room rate folks.
