Conveniently located and clean Let me start off by saying it is next to impossible in the summer to get a hotel room for 1 night at the Jersey Shore. If you were to find that unicorn, I guarantee you’re selling your soul to the devil, your first born, or paying more than your mortgage. When my husband and I decided to go to Cape May for the day and stay overnight I started the search and Hyland Motor came up and had availability. The reviews weren’t bad but the most recent was 4 years ago but we took the chance and booked. The place is conveniently located between Cape May and Wildwood boardwalk which was a plus. The place is old but it was clean and surprisingly quiet. The pool was nice, the chaise chairs had seen better days but they were plentiful. The room had a microwave and a good size refrigerator/freezer for your taffy and fudge and there are grills available if you chose that route. If you’re looking for the Hilton look some place else but if you’re looking for one night at the Jersey Shore it’s just fine.

Absolutely disgusting I actually cried when we saw our room. Mold in the shower, hairs everywhere, dust everywhere, no fitted sheet and one didgustingly yellowed pillow didn’t even have a pillowcase! Management apologized and said their maids have not been up to par. Then maybe they should close down?? Covid protocols definitely not being met, as ordinary standards are not even being closely met. If my husband was not doing a triathlon in the morning and all other hotels were not booked, we would be out of here. We are sleeping on towels we brought with us, even after requesting clean sheets that they gave us to put on ourselves. I only tapped the one star bevause it wouldn’t let me submit zero

Bring Your Noise Cancellers, Earplugs, and a Spare Tire Sometimes, it’s all about the price-point and location. Right? The Hyland Motor Inn is conveniently located off of a major highway that leads to the zoo, wildlife refuges, museums, and beaches. A hospital is located 0.5 miles away. Restaurants, full-sized supermarkets, and big-box stores abound in less than 1 mile. The staff is friendly and welcoming. You will be instructed to return the key card to your room to their office upon your departure. Many brochures occupy the Main Office. I am guessing that some of the visitors rent rooms for the month. It appears as though some live here. There are lots of grills located on the grounds. If you want to grill food and have a picnic, have at it. Upon your in-person payment, you have to sign a waiver that basically says that you won’t hold the owner responsible If you get the coronies (Covid-19). Upon making reservations, your reserved room may or may not be ready for you after 5:30 pm. Call ahead if you plan to check into your room between 5-6:00 pm. Since you are staying in a beach area, expect the neighboring guests to be LOUD and obnoxious at times. I know. Right? They may not filter, if you know what I mean. Do you know what I mean? This is not the fault of the owner of the motel. Some of your neighbors may be arriving completely drunk. The walls are paper-thin. Bring your noice cancellers if this sort of thing bothers you. At night, be careful of the glass in the parking lot so as to not get a flat tire. For the price and location, this was an “okay” place. It all depends on what you are looking for and what you are willing to endure when you’re frugal.

Not the same We stayed here in July and our adult children also had rooms as well. We have been coming to the Hyland for about 10 years. We typically stay in the same room which had been updated and was always clean. This time each of us had the same takeaways. The rooms smelled musty, the comforters looked dirty and the room just wasn't the same. The staff were friendly as always. The pool had a slimy feel as well. We had always enjoyed our stay at the Hyland, but this may be the last year we do so.

Family Weekend at Hyland Motor Inn I spent a few days at the Hyland Motor Inn in August and couldn't wait to bring my kids there. I spent this past weekend at the motel with my son and his family. We enjoyed the visit immensely. We had the room with 2 separate bedrooms and a kitchen area. We were able to grill outdoors and use the firepit. The kids loved running around the property! The rooms are clean and the property is kept very nicely. Its close proximity to Stone Harbor is great and I can't wait to go back next summer.
