Find somewhere else to stay. You’ll be glad you did! This hotel “looks” nice from inside. Once entering, however, you begin to get a sense of management’s philosophy in running a business by the way they treat the property and guests. We were told there will be NO servicing of the rooms. If you want something you must approach housekeeping and ask for requested items. They do not come into the room to check for cleaning needs; no sweeping/vacuuming the floor or dusting/wiping down surfaces, etc. If you want clean towels you must bring your dirty ones to a housekeeper to exchange for clean ones. Our stay was booked for six days. Of that time, not once did someone come to empty the trash nor did they come in to clean the bath room; which was getting quite dirty and smelling putrid. We asked if we could leave early and they immediately snapped back at us that we could not leave; that we’d paid for six nights and were committed! The sheets, supposedly clean on day one, had sand on them. Unhygienic, to say the least. Uncomfortable at most. One night I slept with a long night gown, no socks, etc. I woke up itching all over and could not stop. It was an allergic reaction to something on the sheets. Be careful if you have any kind of allergies! The a/c’s temp setting, can be changed, but only to warmer settings. Cool setting barely circulates air around the room. Walking into the room after an hour or longer absence, one finds a distinct musty smell in the air. Sign in refrigerator states ‘fridge runs for 2 hours on and 8 hours off. In hot summer this is not acceptable. There is NO ice machine available now premises for guest use. No lite continental breakfast. They do offer candy bars in a brown bag as “breakfast “. We will run from any Wyndham owned property. We do feel the manager is too aggressive in making sure his bottom line is met, cutting corners in every way possible, while taking originally happy guests for granted, are the ones who are neglected and often treated as nuisances. This is a receipe for diaster. The sink in our bath is missing a stopper. Be careful putting in those contacts! The refridge runs for about a minute on and six or so off. There was a sign in the refrigerator stating the the food would chill for (…2 hours on and eight off.)

Just one night We were having difficulty finding a place to stay on the island and came across this hotel. It is now called “The Windstar Hotel.” For the night, they wanted $300+ for a stay. We were willing to pay that just to be on the island, but it is definitely NOT worth that much for a night’s stay. The floors on each floor are dirty with debris on the ground. The landing on the stairwells are dirty on both sides of the building. Our room was incredibly small and with such an odd layout. The AC was not working at first, but with some playing around, we got it to come on. It didn’t stay cool through the night. The mirror was scratched up, you could barely see yourself. Whoever painted the room definitely did a rush job and left old color on the wall. There were even rips on the wall from possible hanging fixtures falling off. In the back/side of the hotel, someone has made it their own personal hang out space. There was an old mattress, a makeshift grill on top of a trash can, chairs, kids bike, etc. looked very trashy, and staff would be out back hanging there. The side door had a rock to hold it open for easy entry (not safe). There is only one elevator and one rolling cart for people to use. We also had a terrible experience with a staff member late in the evening. He was very rude and adamant that he knew what he was talking about without consulting/checking in with his team members. Then realized after a heated 10min exchange he was incorrect. Never apologized until check out the next morning for his rudeness. For $300+ not worth that much for a night’s stay for the condition this place is in. But we were in a bind and had no other options and needed to be on the island.

Hotel Now Closed Permanently As of February 2021, this hotel is now closed permanently. Not sure what happened but this was one of the best hotels to stay at at a very very reasonable price. Not sure at this time if the property is going to reopen as a different hotel or the property may be redeveloped.

Lousy Hotel Looking for a hotel that doesn't give a damn about Covid restrictions and plays it fast and loose with cleaning and safety regulations? The Microtel Inn and Suites by Wyndam in Carolina Beach is the place for you! What a dump! We arrived in our room and removed our shoes to unpack. After about 15 minutes of walking on the floor, our feet were filthy. We wiped the floor down with wet towels and found something that looked like bacon pieces, in addition to a water bottle under the bed from a previous guest. The base of the chair appears to be smeared with dried bbq sauce. The housekeeping staff wears masks around their necks or not at all. The lights by the pool are broken so the pool is dark at night. This is against code. They claim to have continental breakfast included, but the area is filthy and most of the food is gone. Syrup and milk are community use items rather than individually wrapped packages. There were 2 cups with the remnants of waffle batter lying on the counter surrounded by crumbs and no empty cups to make waffles. It was a decent place last summer, but things have changed in the course of a year. I emailed corporate and got no reply. I spoke to the front desk more than once, but that didn't help either. If you need a place to stay in Carolina Beach, look elsewhere! The 3 pictures I uploaded show the housekeeping staff with no mask, the chair with sauce on it and my foot after walking on the room of the floor.
