Go for the views, stay for the people This was, without a doubt, the best holiday I've ever been on and my partner agrees. I cannot stress enough how lovely the staff were and how friendly we found everyone to be in Tobago. Junette and Randall were amazing. We spoke to them most, but absolutely everyone was so kind, helpful, and welcoming. We loved our room and we both had a 'wow' moment when we first got in. As our plane was delayed enough to miss dinner, the hotel had left sandwiches wrapped up in our room which was really nice and appreciated. The decor is not the modern white walls and clinical feel that we've all grown used to, but we much preferred this because it felt more charming. Our ocean view from the balcony was incredible, such a magical sight to wake up to. The room service was great. Our room was always left lovely and fresh. We did once have to wait for beach towels to finish washing but as we had our own spare ones this made no difference to us. I imagine maybe during the busy season, bringing a spare towel could avoid any issues on that front. As the hotel is open-air, it was lovely stepping outside in the morning to feel the warmth envelop you and then going back to the room later and enjoying the air conditioning. We've not used air conditioning before though so accidentally kept turning it all the way up (the lowest number). We had hot water, but honestly we never really used it as cold showers are ideal for the hot weather. The view of the beach is also overlooked by Tamara's restaurant which has the most amazing food! It was so nice and well-presented that we only ate anywhere else when we were out on trips. Major compliments to the chef and kitchen team, as well as the waiting staff. The selection of food and drinks in all-inclusive was great. We didn't end up buying anything extra, although we were tempted by the lobster and ribs usually availabile to buy. The beach bar was being renovated during our stay, so unfortunately no beach bbq, but maintenance has to happen sometime and this did not affect our trip at all due to the lovely meals in Tamara's. Drinks were still available for the beach and we did get a bbq themed night in the restaurant that was delicious. We loved the beach and while there was some seaweed in areas, this was not offputting and had no impact on our enjoyment. It is amazing the amount of sealife that can be found just within this area. Snorkeling was included and we saw so many fish of different colours, shapes and sizes. There's plenty of crabs, gulls, and pelicans about by the rocks. We were even lucky enough to watch a stingray swim around us. I also went scuba diving with the dive shop on the beach and that was amazing as well. We went on two tours during our stay, which we arranged separately with a birdwatcher called Newton George, who was a fantastic guide. However, I know a few other people who enjoyed their tours with Kelton (who owns the birds of prey that featured at breakfast sometimes). There are a few small birds flying around at breakfast but they're no bother, the food isn't accessible to them and it was really nice getting to see and be around them. As long as you do your research and feel confident that this is the place for you, then you will have the most amazing time. Coco Reef deserves more love than it gets.

Wonderful holiday at Coco Reef Hotel & Spa We had a wonderful holiday at Coco Reef Hotel & Spa. The hotel’s location is amazing, the staff are all so friendly and helpful and can’t do enough to make sure you enjoy your holiday. As said in previous comments by other guests our room although very clean, was a bit dated, but this didn’t bother us or spoil the enjoyment of our holiday at all and we loved the charm and character of the building and its beautiful grounds. We appreciate that the Manager Adrian is working hard to improve all parts of the hotel and the ongoing work at the beach bar and in the hotel didn’t worry us and at a hotel that is open 52 weeks a year, work has to be done at sometime! Food was so good and we enjoyed the variety of the 3 course A La Carte evening menu and lovely cocktails. We felt quite sad to read some of the negative reports on Coco Reef, but understand that everyone does have different opinions and expectations of holidays and hotels but for us we loved it and we will definitely return again to Coco Reef as do most of the guests who go year after year. Thank you all for a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Not 4* or relaxing Not 4* more 2/3*. Hotel was a building site during our stay Sept’24. Beach bar closed & maintenance & decorating being carried out within hotel. Strong smell of paint & noisy around beach & pool area all day from new decking being built. Certainly not a relaxing experience. Private beach pool was smelly and had floating debris so you didn’t want to swim in it. The outdoor pool was very near the building works so you got the noise of the electric saw & banging all day. The only bar closed at 11pm & you were asked to leave. It has its lights turned off most evenings and you had to find the barman to ask if it was open! Very unwelcoming. Rooms & beds clean (dated decor) and ok but air conditioning ran water down walls & onto tiled floor making pools & made room smell a little mouldy. Shower worked on & off. Maid often took away dirty towels & didn’t replace. Also don’t replace the tea & coffee so you had to keep asking for more at reception. Hotel was dead - hardly anyone about. Main restaurant was open air so no air conditioning & very uncomfortable in heat for all meals. WiFi poor in rooms and no reception in the bar. Communications very poor from reception & we missed out on trips as rep phoned to confirm but we never got the messages. No excuse as hotel had both our mobile numbers to advise we had messages & could’ve left messages under bedroom door. No information on entertainment for the week so guests went out & only 2 or maximum we saw 6 people were watching the man with his one steel drum! Felt sorry for the guy, doing his best to drum up an atmosphere! Food ok but repetitive. Bars & takeaways outside hotel were good alternative. Cool Runnings was best party boat trip from next bay within walking distance. Island tour with Kelton Thomas (hotel bird man) was excellent & he took us all around the island & to the hummingbirds which we could hand feed. A long way to go for a holiday on a building site.

Unpleasant Stay in Sept 2024 I visited with my family (including an infant). The negatives: The beach was warm, murky green and a little smelly, lots of algae and the sand was green and slimy underfoot. There was no water at the hotel for one of the days, and when water did return it was brown and smelly. We had to purchase water from a nearby shop to manually fill our toilet tanks, bathe our infant and wash baby bottles etc. The hotel provided one small (250ml) water bottle per occupant during the water shortage. Lots of mosquitoes in the hotel lobby as well. The rooms are very dated and in desperate need to refurbishment. When we did have water, the tap in the bathroom leaked constantly. The fixtures are old, the AC was leaking and the vent is positioned so that it blasts cold air on the nearest bed, making it very uncomfortable to sleep. The beds are also very uncomfortable. The positives: Breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly.
