Loved it Our 4th stay at this hotel and it’s still relaxing and enjoyable , maybe it needs some TLC but the ambiance of this old building is palpable . Stayed in a ‘ Deluxe Room ‘ that adds a little luxury including a jacuzzi bath that was quite a challenge to this old man on removing oneself from the tub ! Staff were without exception friendly and helpful, breakfast more than sufficient and the pool a nice bonus . There is a great pub called the Marine round the corner and a 3 min walk . We will return.

I’ll avoid a revisit There’s a couple of photos of the lobby from 2010 still on the page here for this hotel and I can tell you, the same furniture is in the lobby today. Just much much more tired looking. In truth, the whole hotel looks knackered. Old fashioned single pane window in the bathroom that would not close properly and the 1990s heater in the room wouldn’t work so the night was a chilly one. There were no tea bags or sugar on the kettle station so that didn’t help either. Carpets on the stair risers were worn, builders tape sticking pieces of the dining room carpet together, a bathroom suite my Nan had when I was a kid and pool changing cubicles look like they were put up in a hurry one day before mobile phones were in everyone’s pockets. I get the whole ‘You get what you pay for’ but I’ve been to many hotels of the same budget and see a lot better, cleaner and modern variety. Breakfast was a disappointment for £14 a head. The continental stretched to 3 different types of pastry. Me and my daughter sat by the window to look over the sea front on today’s lovely sunny day. Until we went up for our food and came back to find the staff had lowered it because the sun was in someone’s eyes. The room was cast in almost darkness because of one person who wasn’t happy at our first sunny morning of the year. Plenty of other tables they could’ve sat at. Instead me and my kid sat overlooking a full lowered dirty blind. Most of the staff were pleasant enough. After I’d paid parking and checked in I was offered a parking permit. Would’ve been nice to know that before I got there. You can’t just wander in to the dining room for diner or breakfast even though when we did book we were the only ones there. There were a couple of large-ish groups (8-10) there and this prevented us from booking a table for breakfast and lunch when we wanted to eat. Maybe the chef can’t handle the heat in the kitchen? Not sure why for breakfast because it was buffet. Paid £14:50 for a pepperoni pizza which was average to say the least. Kids 2 course menu was £11 and not worth it either. Ordered a plain beef burger for my kid and a cheese burger packed with salad arrived. My pizza got cold waiting for her correct order to be prepared. Overall, a very tired looking place with average at best food. There’s a reason most of the recent photos are from 2010-16. Nobody bothers to photograph a tired hotel. I’ll avoid a revisit as there’s so much choice in that area. I recommend you do the same.

What a super hotel. This hotel deserves a mention. The staff could not be more helpful, such a friendly crew. Very warm and clean into the bargain. Food was very well cooked and imaginative choices. On a bus route with plenty of different destinations. Such a very pleasant stay.
