Sad day to say goodbye to one of the best hotels in Ft. McMurray Over the past 20 years i have attended more parties at the Sawridge Hotel that I can even count. Every event was memorable but I believe New Years Eve 2000 was the most spectacular! Five different events all with different themed rooms and themed drinks happening simultaneously. Wasn't that a party! I spent a night at the Sawridge recently while i had a stopover. Exactly one week before the scheduled closure of the hotel forever. Despite the skeleton staff due to the closure, I still received excellent service in the lounge and an excellent dinner. There were few guests but I had a wonderful memory when a small wedding party took over the private dining room for their celebration and rocked on!

Nice rooms... that is all The hotel staff were all very friendly and the room was nice. But the pool is covered over and the bathrooms could use a face lift. Good value for the money and it's very close to the airport. The buffet for supper only had four options so I found another place to dine. This place has areas that could be improved but overall the value is still there.

Comfortable stay, great staff. Was in Fort McMurray for the weekend and stayed here. The place was probably lovely a year ago, now it is just going through the motions as it prepares to close on Dec 17th. A shame really. The staff were all great, front desk, restaurant, bar, housekeepers but it must be tough to work knowing you are losing your job. The rooms were spacious and clean, the bar was cozy and nice fireplaces in the restaurant. Perfect for watching it snow outside. Fort McMurray is still recovering and has a ways to go but hopefully they can make a full recovery. One thing I have to mention is that there are no plastic bags in the Mac. Anywhere! A city bylaw It's very strange to go shopping at the mall and have to just carry your stuff around! Bring bags!

Buffet in the evening I used to rave about the buffet at the Sawridge. Stopped in the other night and was kind of disappointed. The 4 items they had up there were good, but it was very limited. Usually they have soup but not even that was available. Salad was pretty well empty as well, and it was 6:00pm when I was there. Maybe it was an off night.

Hmm... I used to stay at this hotel whenever I was in Fort McMurray and really enjoyed my stay. This last time was different. The lobby was as nice as always, the front desk lady was great... check-in a breeze. The hallway was smelling of cigarette smoke and carpets were dirty. The room was clean and nice. We went down for the dinner buffet but it was sad, few choices and poor quality. Breakfast was free but sad as well. Hotel needs renovation.
