Wonderful Hampton Inn Very clean and updated. Freshly baked cookies in the evening. Close to several fast food places - walking distance to Pizza Hut and Subway (same parking area) and a great Mexican Food Restaurant across the street. Super front desk service by Ariana at checkin. Highly recommend a stay.

Fitness room issues (and can't contact Hampton Inn about it) One reason our family chooses Hampton Inns when we travel is the fitness rooms which, while small, usually have the minimum of exercise bike / Peloton, treadmills, and medicine balls. Unfortunately this Hampton Inn had a number of issues with the fitness room, most notably that the heat was approx. 80 degrees. The night clerk tried her best to be helpful (I was appreciative of her help), but apparently the heat in the fitness room is set to the same as the adjacent pool. That makes it almost unusable for high-cardio activity like Peloton or treadmill. - Also there were no towels in the exercise room. - The wall clock was set to the wrong time. - And the 8lb medicine ball was broken. Overall it gave the impression of a neglected facility. Which is a disappointment when that's the reason you chose this chain vs. Marriott etc. And to top it off, Hilton doesn't make it feasible to contact them -- all the communication we get from them is from "noreply" email addresses. So aside from mentioning a couple of these things to the front desk clerk, I couldn't report them more fully.

Just, No. This is a well aged Hampton inn and unlike a wine, age has not been kind to it. The rooms--at least the one I was assigned on the 2nd floor--are in abysmal condition. The carpet was stain riddled, the weather/sound stripping around the door was literally hanging down from the top of the door and the furnishings were scraped and dented. The front desk staff was friendly, but this unfortunately does not make up for a hotel in this condition. There are myriad options in close proximity and I'd highly suggest looking at one of those if you must stay in Gillette.

Rude, Poor Management The rooms are average here, the internet doesn't work properly. It's otherwise a pretty average Hampton. The problem is the management. We ended up paying $6.56 more than the reservation stated, and I don't know why. The biggest issue was at check-in. There was no one there to check us in, and it wasn't very late - just before 9pm. We waited for a while, maybe 5 or 10 minutes, and then I called the hotel number. Melissa answered, I just told her that we were there to check in, and she hung up without comment. She did come out to check us in, but she told me that I should have gone behind the desk, and knocked on the door. I questioned why I would do that, or feel like it was acceptable, and she told me that she was just being funny. I didn't find it funny, and said that they could have a bell, or anything, and I didn't understand why she was being rude. She told me that I was being rude, and that she wouldn't give me a room if I continued being rude. I didn't understand how it got there, and just kept quiet until receiving the key. Once I had the key, I told her that she was the only one that was rude, and she told me that she was going to have me removed. Using the threat of not having a place to sleep that night should not be taken lightly, and it was clear this employee would have done it to anyone for almost any reason. I understand that workers in these positions are under stress and treated poorly, but sometimes the customer is still treated poorly for no reason. The most concerning thing, though, is that I contacted Hilton about it, and received unintelligible, clearly outsourced responses, and ended up getting nowhere with it. Hilton was one of the very best hotel chains 10 years ago, but has dropped to one of the worst. On this trip, I had issues with another Hilton property, and they chose to just not respond (they charged a made-up fee that wasn't disclosed). It's time to start looking at Marriott and other chains for quality accommodations.
