Refreshing Beach Vibes Delightful, Room 112, ocean view. Check email if you're late check in. Receptionist was friendly and kind, I just made it for check in at 6pm. Highway construction was ongoing. Lovely room with sea vibes. I love the fridge being in the other room in a closet, I can enjoy ocean sounds without fridge noise. Kudos. Cove Azul excellent to eat at and was open. Not all restaurants are open all the time. Because of a power outage Cove Azul was not letting in people after 6:30pm. Seems getting in just before was my blessing all round. The restaurant is a walk up the road. Good to ask where is best place to eat. Walked up the trail to view sunset, one last look before leaving. The place is right above the ocean which has a beach strip. Yes to the fluffy bed, wood floors, and cute furniture. Nice, clean, fresh room. A great stop.

Acceptable with Friendly Staff The Surf Inn is conveniently located and right on the ocean-side though you can’t easily walk to the water. The rooms are “quaint” with a large-ish bathroom, television, refrigerator and microwave. There isn’t much available floor space though there is room in the closet inside the bathroom for a suitcase or two. The bed was fine, despite some other less-flattering reviews, and the room was dated but okay. There is a nice are to sit and watch the ocean, use the fire pit or have a cookout with the permission of the management. The office staff were pleasant and helpful. Oh, the Surf Inn is adjacent to the grocery which is really great. On Saturday mornings there is a farmer’s market a few minutes walk away. We were satisfied with our experience and the price was as good as you can get in Gualala.

Quaint place, but literally worst bed ever. I really really really wanted to like this place, but it's just ok. I have to say the bed was like a medieval torture device. It goes up in the middle and down on the sides so you constantly feel like you're going to roll out. It's hard and feels like it has metal springs that are going to poke through the mattress. The refrigerator made a very loud humming noise all night, and the AC was dripping water. Now here's the kicker, the owner wrote up an information sheet for the room, and it says, "if the AC starts dripping, just turn it off" ok, then what? Just sweat all night? Or I don't know, maybe get it fixed so it doesn't drip???? To me, that's not an acceptable response to an obvious situation in need of repair. You don't tell your customers not to use a standard feature of the room just because you don't want to get it repaired. Other than that, the room was clean and quaint. Not at all updated since the early 90's. But if you want a clean room by the ocean, and you can sleep through loud noises, tortuous beds, and no AC, then this is the place to go!

Fresh Fish All we did was buy fresh fish and a few accompaniments at the Surf Market. I talked to the manager first and he was very informative as to when and what seafood was coming in to the market. The Petrale Sole was excellent for dinner that night at our vacation house.

Surf Inn Gualala is a great stop for a weekend getaway to the coast We spent one night at the Surf Inn in April 2023, and I wish we could have stayed longer. The location right on Highway 1 is in the center of town, walking distance to all the great food and views of the ocean; it's a short drive to state parks. The manager is incredible. She was easy to reach, easy to talk to, accommodating for our slightly later check-in after a fishing trip and super knowledgable of the best food nearby. The room itself was cozy and had everything required - fridge, coffee, comfy bed, heater. We look forward to going to Surf Inn again for our weekend spearfishing adventures.
