Elegant old main building, excellent service but parking and noise problematic. The main building is indeed very historic and elegant. The hotel clearly states no elevator but there are two flights if you are on the second floor. We paid an extra $15 each for a very generous continental breakfast in the dining room. Unfortunately on site restaurant was closed for dinner . We found the onsite parking problematic. Its limited ...first come first served. There is one loading zone space outside the main building where you check in. That was taken the day we arrived, so we had to double park while one of us ran in and got parking directions. (down a side alley). Otherwise its paid parking on the street. Staff were terrific. Nothing too much bother. Room was very comfy and I did not find it too small at all. However the TV was very small for an upmarket hotel and really should be upgraded. We stayed two nights in the old building, One night (midweek) the noise from the pub next door was really loud. Other reviewers have commented on the potential for noise so you take your chances. The next night no problem. You could ask to stay further away from the noise in one of the timber buildings but I dont think it would be the same experience.

Fine, but could be better. Bit of a mixed bag. The hotel consists of several separate buildings along a street, entry to each involves some pretty steep steps. We ascended the steeps to reception, with luggage to be redirected after checkin to a building 3 blocks down the street. Not a great start at 21:30 after travelling all day. Added to that was the QR code to order your breakfast before 22:00 . That said, the room was very good, spacious with arm chairs and a sofa. Down side, the air con is controlled centrally, so no ability to regulate your own room. So, a bit of a mixed bag.

Great location, Nice Staff, Needs Updating The location is fantastic. You can easily walk all over downtown Halifax from here. Staff is helpful and friendly. The room was very clean but in **real** need of updating. The bed felt old. The decor was "your grandma's who hasn't moved in 50 years." Plugs were inconvenient. The clock radio was made for some device that no one has anymore. The TV (which we didn't use) was about the size of a book. There is so much room for improvement in the room. The breakfast is not included and they strictly enforce a requirement that you order the night before by 10:00. It will set you back $15 Canadian and is nothing special. Coffee' (available for free) s weak. Still, all in all, if you want a great location in Halifax, it delivers.

Convenient location I would give this inn a 3+ if I could. Prettyfrom the outside, character on the inside, but furniture was a bit tired. Bed was comfy, though, and it was in a good location. Easy walk to Boardwalk and also to the Maritime Museum. Decent place for a one night stay.

Central hotel close to boardwalk, historic Having looked at many reviews when planning our trip I wanted to say what I thought. A central hotel, close to the boardwalk in Halifax which is what I was looking for. It’s old and if this is what you are looking for then it has real character. I cannot fault this. Lovely staff on reception too. However, which is what I should have realised, this would mean you will hear people above, people coming down your corridor and people coming up the stairs banging doors. This is not the hotels fault, you just need to be aware of this when you book. It’s old. Hope this helps when making your decision about where to stay.
