Go for it…You won’t be disappointed! Nice room on the end of the building. Great city view especially at night. Close to shopping and restaurants. Very clean room. Friendly staff. Fair price for the location of the hotel. Comfortable lobby.

My new favorite hotel on Oahu I **LOVE** this hotel. It is exactly my speed and my aesthetic. I actually stayed at this hotel two separate times in the month of December - as bookends to my trip to Hawaii. (The rest of the time I stayed with friends in the North Shore.) Though the rates were higher than usual due to the holidays, I still feel like it was a really good value. My rate included a big discount off the valet parking so I didn't have the hassle of parking on the street. The rooms I got (the cheapest room I could get each time) were not grand or anything, but they were REALLY clean, very tastefully appointed, the beds were VERY comfortable, the sheets and towels and indeed the whole room smelled good (no funny smells). Even the toiletries (soaps, shampoo, body wash) smelled good and were obviously of good quality - they did not cheap out on this stuff. The amenities overall were better than average, and they give you these cute pink water bottles that you can take home with you. The decor in the whole building was really cute, very tasteful, kinda nostalgic with the old-style posters. The bar/restaurant was decent, though they were short staffed at the time the food was still good (I highly recommend the hamachi carpaccio!). Customer service was solid throughout - just the right level of aloha. I will definitely be coming back here again, whenever I have to be on Oahu. A few things tobe prepared for - 1) the valet will take a long time to get your car - I don't think this is specific to the Queen Kapiolani - all the smaller hotels have to play tetris with their parked cars so it takes a while; 2) Waikiki can be LOUD at night, so if you have a balcony or otherwise keep the window/door open when you sleep (as I do), just be prepared for that; 3) I was told by a local friend that that end of Waikiki (the eastern end, next to the Zoo) is a bit sketch so she did not recommend walking up and down Kapahulu or the park/zoo area at night by yourself. There was one more thing -- a weird thing I noticed in both my stays -- you HAVE TO close the bathroom door when you're in there using the toilet, because if leave the door open (as I tend to do when I'm by myself) you will be visible through the window in another room across the way, if anyone decides to look out their window. This was the case in both rooms I had, which were on different sides of the hotel - one with a " city view" and the other facing Diamond Head. It's just an unfortunate design peculiarity that only affects people who like to leave the door open when they're alone. Anyway, FYI.

Great location, not so great hotel Queen Kapiʻolani Hotel is not a luxury hotel, and it’s important to set expectations accordingly. This is an economical option, and you pretty much get what you pay for. One of the highlights for me was the bar and restaurant area. I haven’t eaten there yet, but the food looked good and the space itself is inviting and lively. The location is also a major plus — it’s perfect for getting around all the touristy parts of Waikīkī Beach and close to the action. I traveled during peak season over New Year’s, so the hotel and surrounding area were very crowded, which is to be expected. That said, the room had several quirks that I couldn’t get past. The shower was the biggest issue. There appeared to be tape in the bathtub covering something, which didn’t feel clean or well-maintained. While the water pressure was strong, it wasn’t adjustable, and the water didn’t drain properly, leaving water pooling in the tub. After using the shower or toilet, there was also a very loud howling noise from the plumbing. The room had a closet, but no doors, which felt unfinished. Additionally, what was advertised as a city view turned out to be a view of a low socioeconomic living area, which was disappointing. Overall, I would compare this hotel to a Motel 6 in terms of room quality. If location and price are your main priorities and you don’t plan to spend much time in the room, this hotel may work. However, if comfort and room quality matter to you, you may want to consider other options. To their credit, the hotel did move me to a much nicer room; however, there were still issues. The bathroom soap dispenser did not work properly, and the toilet seat was loose. I did try to eat at the restaurant for breakfast, but they ran out of French toast, pancakes, and select fruits. Overall, this hotel may work if budget and location are your priorities, but it is not a place I would consider comfortable or well-maintained.
