Top notch, highly recommend In the past 6 months, I've stayed at hotels 80 nights. This one tops the list. Clean, comfortable, well maintained, convenient location. Staff was friendly and efficient. Kudos to Kim! Housekeeping did a good job of cleaning the room. I call this place the Discount Tire Hotel because Discount Tire is next door, but their big sign overshadows the Candlewood Suites sign. Don't let that fool you. This is a good place to stay! Next time I'm near Mt. Pleasant, I will stay here again.

Smelly room and more There were many things wrong with my stay. It started with the IHG main sites reservations system. I selected a king suite 2 hours before my arrival. Upon my arrival, I got a 2 queen suite, all they had. They had substituted my Studio King Suite reservation to a "Studio" Suite reservation. That's their "you get the room we give you" phrase. On top of that, the room was the smelly. Sort of a weird old oil cooking smell or a body odor smell combo. The front desk offered to move us, but at midnight we didn't want to haul our luggage to another room, and what if that one was smelly too. To top it off, they're 10 minutes from the main freeway. That's my bad for wanting a king bed that no one else seemed to have. I guess I fell for the electronic version of the bait and switch. But wait, there's more. They charged me more than hotels.com site by $14 (but the IHG site had the King bed remember). Al l in all it was a forgetful experience. They are deceptive at least and just poor quality at best. I will probably just stay away from this lesser quality of the Holiday Inn hotel chain.

A bargain during Covid and you don't need a car. Candlewood Suites in Mt Pleasant across the bridge from downtown Charleston is great. It appears to be newly renovated and the kitchen in the room is fully equiped with plates & silverware, pots & pans, even a toaster & dishwasher. Also a good laundry room. You don't need a car because bus 40 to downtown is a short walk, and the bus stop is across the street from Whole Foods on Houston Northcutt Blvd. The bus is hourly, so be early. Charleston historic residential district south of Broad St with huge homes dating from 1730s is stunning with lots to see and plaques to read. You don't need to research it initially, just start walking south on King St from Broad St. South of Broad preservation was pioneered by Susan Frost in 1910s. She is a hero and there is a book about her at the Charleston Preservation Society at the corner of King & Queen. I also recommend Huriyali Gardens, 401 Huger St & Rutledge Ave, which is cool with healthy food & beer. It's not far from downtown, and bus 102 to Rutledge & Moultrie St is an interesting ride through nice neighborhoods. Huriyali is close to Bus 40 stop at Line St & Meeting St which takes you back to Candlewood Suites. Candlewood Suites is a bargain during Covid which never seems to end.

We found MAGA Country! What this hotel lacks (which is just about everything) is more than made up for as you drive around town. American Flags EVERYWHERE! Support for our President, townspeople out and about. It was a wonderful little town and we've made sure to note another trip to explore more. But at a different hotel. This one's tired. WWG1WGA!
