Enjoyable family getaway at Castaway Bay in Sandusky. Is it perfect? No. A great value? Not really. But the kids had fun Had never been to Cedar Point so I decided to take the family for a couple of days and spent one night here. Side note, don’t waste your time on cedar point if your kids are young and they aren’t fans of getting scared. We had no idea went to the park and 60% of their rides were closed (and most all of the kids attractions were closed). Lesson learned. Now on to staying at Castaway Bay. Check-in - Arrived close to 3pm. Check-in was smooth, only waited a few minutes and the lady at the front desk was kind and professional. Got our room even though we arrived before our 4pm check-in time. The Room - The room was above average. Was it tired? Yes. But it seemed clean which was better than previous reviews I had read. The kids loved the fact that they got to sleep in bunk beds. The bunk beds seemed fine but their tv and remote didn’t work. The main King bed was actually pretty comfortable and overall it was a pretty good night there. The Water Park - This was the main reason we chose this hotel and was a bit of a let down. There seemed to be a good amount of workers and they were pretty professional. Two of the slides were down as well as one of the play areas. That was a bit of a let down but the kids still had fun. The nice thing is that you can still use the water park the entire day on the day you check out. This was a lifesaver after we spent two hours at cedar point and realized the kids couldn’t ride anything. Extras - We did the bowling and mini golf and some of the games. Everything was massively overpriced and the kids didn’t really enjoy it. We also bought the breakfast buffet which was expensive but tasted pretty good and cheaper than anything at Cedar Point. There are also a couple little grab and go spots in the hotel and the prices didn’t seem that awful. Overall this was a solid 7 out of 10. I probably would return for a special event or price but there is also Great Wolf Lodge in the area that we would probably try before coming here again.

Not worth the money The room was so filthy. The waterpark slides were not running due to being short staffed. A supervisor was supposed to contact me but never did. Save your money and stay elsewhere.

Not worth it Phone didn't work. Room was not fully cleaned, found used soap and tissues on bathroom counter. TV doesn't have any channels except news. Find somewhere else.

Attempt at your own risk The hallways smells of mold/mildew Water stains all over ceilings and walls that seem to be from leaks Beds were hard or lumpy Rooms were over packed with stuff and not enough room for anything or anyone. Unable to use "pull out chair" because room was too small to accommodate it. Rooms were too small for the amount of people they claim will fit Bathroom fans do NOT turn off Water park was dark and dingy Water park looked like it hadn't been cleaned in over a year. Dirt/Sand was on the bottom of all the pools Food was mediocre at best, had chemical aftertaste or was undercooked. Food was over priced Stairwells were dark and damp, they also smelled of mold Elevators were NOT safe, got stuck in one several times, also had the second provided elevator drop between floors multiple times. Staff did not care about concerns about elevators Room that was book was no longer available and wasn't told a reason. The excuse kept changing, discount for MUCH smaller rooms had to be fought for. Heat/AC unit in room smelled when used Entire outside of hotel top to bottom was covered in spiders
