End of Summer Celebration Wine Dinner and overnight stay. Last night we attended an End of Summer Celebration Lenz Wine pairing Dinner with an overnight stay at The Pridwin Hotel. The menu was carefully put together by the chef at The Pridwin along with the winemaker from Lenz winery. Together they came up with a six course menu of culinary excellence! The winemaker was in attendance to explain each selection and answer any questions that we may have had. The very talented chef also came out to introduce himself as well. This was a five star event!!!!! We are looking forward to visiting the restaurant again before it closes for the season. Our room was comfortable and it had a beautiful water view. Everything was just perfect.

Good atmosphere, but the room was overpriced! We should have booked a different room, but we booked one of the cottages and felt strongly that the room was overpriced, way over. We understand a hotel may charge a room in different price in different season. We would be happy to pay the price if our expectations meet even it is overpriced because we accept a reality which summer resort hotels need to make money in the season. Unfortunately, it was not the case for us at this time. A location of the hotel was nice, but the beach was very small. It did not look as same as the picture years ago. The sea level has been raised or the beach has been eroded? I will tell you about the room later, but the fact is the hotel is old. Ages of the hotel did not bother us. We thought the hotel has a history and this is a charming hotel. Even there were a billiard table for 50 cents to play and a nostalgic TV game machine for 25 cents for a game in a room with unmatched movies posters on the wall, James Bond, Dirty Dancing, and a few more. There was a swimming pool and a restaurant has a beautiful view. The staff were very young and the hotel has a nice atmosphere. We would stay this hotel again if our expectations meet what we pay for. It was a last minutes plan for us so we did not spent our time to read reviews. A room we stayed was one of the cottages. We wanted our room was quiet and separated from the next room because we have a 8 year-old boy so the cottage was a very good option for us. The room had a balcony and a kitchen was in the room. The room was old and needed to be updated. The sofa was dirty, not filthy just old. The kitchen was old. Bathroom was ok, but it was old. Chairs on the balcony were old. Everything in the room except pillows and a comforter on the bed was old. There were many towels in the bath room, but they were thin. To be honest, we felt we were staying in a motel room, not a room for over $500/night. As I said, we could have booked in a different room and our experience may be very different. It just did not work for us. Unfortunately, we were very dissapointed and we made our stay short and left the hotel a couple day earlier than we planned. We think the hotel needs to work on updating furnitures in the room. It is not fair for hotel guests who stay and pay over $500/night if nothing has been updated.

Wonderful The restaurant is sooooo good this year. Definitely recommend for dinner. The menu is varied, creative and delicious. I recommend the veal chop, the striped bass, the duck and the chicken. Wonderful atmosphere, delicious menu and good service. Must visit.

Annual staycation We come for 2 or 3 nights every summer. It has beautiful views and you feel like you have escaped time. It is not modern, but you have WiFi and cable etc! Besides, you will enjoy sitting by the salt water pool sipping a cocktail, more than playing online. The quakers used shelter island as just that. We use it for the same.

Overpriced. Best thing about it is location/view This extremely overpriced and old hotel/guest inn was not worth the almost $500/night rate we paid recently. Apparently the prices were increased due to the Shelter Island Fireworks, but anything more than $150/night is overpriced. Service was surly, no elevator and no one offered to help us up 3 floors with our bags. Kayaks and bikes are an extra rental fee for guests - I think the first hour on a bike is free. At least that is what one staff person told us and then when we went back to book, another staff person said that wasn't true. The sofa bed is extremely uncomfortable. The bathrooms - if you are lucky to have a renovated one, while stylish is small and cramped. Walls are thin and noise carries. Fortunately, the air conditioning is deafening so you can drown out the hall, neighbors and outside voices while staying cool - and did I mention we were on the top floor? I recognize that the location is an island and choices are limited, but I won't stay here again. For the price, I'll stay off island and have a nice bigger place! The positive is that the views from the porch are beautiful and it is easy to get around and go to sunset beach.
