Cheaper Alternative to Beaver Dam Hotels We opted for the Quality Inn in Sun Prairie because hotels further north in Beaver Dam were much pricier. With One Key Cash, we were able to book a room for $70. It is conveniently located on the north end of town off of Highway 151. There was off street free parking but less turn around for larger vehicle. We had a microwave, mini fridge with a freezer section (though the freezer needed to be defrosted.) Walkable sidewalks in the area which is mainly a quiet business park. There is also plenty of green space. The grounds and the facility were clean. Our room was a large space with a king bed with lounge chair and desk and chair. There was a separate vanity from the shower and tub. There was a makeshift repair on the drain in the tub. We had a hairdryer, iron and board, and safe. You can walk to a nearby Kwik Trip. Other conveniences are a short drive away. It is a two-story hotel with no elevator. There are about 12 stairs between floors. The front desk was very efficient.

Unusually pleasant and appealing. A very pleasant, clean, well-maintained motel in a great location. The setting is quiet, calm and relaxing, with nice landscaping and older growth trees, at the edge of a business park. You can take walks in the neighborhood without heavy traffic. Still, it’s just a couple of miles from downtown Sun Prairie and a short drive to Madison. A convenience store/gas station is very close by. Our room was clean and nicely appointed. Motel staff were courteous and helpful. We did not sample breakfast, having brought our own. The swimming pool is large for a motel and I wish I’d had time for a dip. Next visit.

Stay if you must, but go elsewhere instead Review of Quality Inn: First, the bad – • There is no elevator in this hotel. If you are assigned a room on the second floor, you’ll need to navigate the stairs. For those who are handicapped, you are out of luck. • The desk chair in the room is broken. When sitting in it the chair lowers to the lowest setting. Even after adjusting the dial, it still lowers when one is sitting in it. The maintenance guy looked at it and said there was nothing wrong with the chair. IT IS BROKEN, no matter what excuses are given or what is said and should be FIXED or REPLACED. • Electrical. When the heater or refrigerator or bathroom lights turn on or off, the television loses power for about a second. There is something wrong with the electrical in the room we stayed in. Is that faulty electrical a fire hazard? • The hot tub leaks and cannot be used. We were told at check-in not to use this hot tub. It takes up a lot of space in the room. It should either be FIXED or REMOVED. If removed, this area would be a great place for a dining table and two chairs. Or a larger office area. • The bathroom is rather small and the toilet sits low to the ground. For older people this is a troublesome area. It is not handicap accessible. • On day 6 of our stay, our room access cards stopped working. The woman at the front desk re-programmed them and they still did not work. She had to use a master keycard to get us into our room. The maintenance guy was to replace something in the door lock for them to work. Either it was not passed along to him or he didn’t address the issue because the door lock continued to not work. We told the manager on a Saturday morning and that night it took about six tries before the door opened. FIX THE DOOR LOCK! • Because of weather we extended our stay by one day. It was then we learned that we were being charged a higher rate for the room because it had a hot tub. That is the same hot tub that we were told, at the time of check-in, not to use because it leaked. So, if we can’t use the hot tub then why were being charged a higher rate because of it? Now to the good – • The outside premises, the lobby and the pool area were all very clean and seemed to be well maintained. • There is a rack with pamphlets for local attractions and restaurants. For someone not familiar with the area, this information is a nicety. • There is coffee station in the lobby, but the coffee is sometimes cold. • Noise. While the hotel is on a busy street and a major highway just blocks away, the room is mostly quiet. Traffic noise was minimal. • Traffic navigation. A major highway leading to other areas of Sun Prairie, Madison, or the Interstate is easy and close by. • Restaurants & shopping. There are numerous restaurants, grocery stores, and other retail stores in Sun Prairie. If one doesn’t want to go to Madison, one doesn’t have to. If going to Madison, East Towne Mall and a lot restaurants are only minutes away. • All the staff we dealt with were very friendly and except for the maintenance crew, helpful. • The room was clean and large. All things in the room (except for those things listed above) worked well. There is an ironing board, hair dryer, night light, and ample shower items (like soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc). There are plenty of electrical outlets around the room if you need them. • There is no daily maid service as it was explained at check-in that it is every other day for those staying more than one night – it is every other day. If anything is needed, like extra towels, coffee or whatever, one can visit the front desk to get them. The maid did an amazing job cleaning and stocking the room. Kudos to her! • There is a free breakfast included with the room. There are plenty of choices for food and drink and hot or cold. However, we did notice there was no variety of flavors for yogurt. There was plenty to be had, but only Peach flavored. They were often chunky as those items, we were told, are put into a freezer during non-eating hours. Also, on many mornings the only jam flavor was grape. Final analysis – When visiting the area we will be going elsewhere, where employees and management are more honest and upfront with the issues in a room. UPDATE1 – On one night of our stay, there were relatives in town and on the second floor (their choice). They complained of several “problems” in their room, but brushed it off as an “oh well, it’s just for one night” thing. UPDATE2 – After completing a review of our stay, the response was “it is unfortunate you were unhappy with your stay and maybe your next stay with us will be better.” We will not be staying at this Quality Inn again. No apologies! No word on fixing issues in the room! And no credit for being over-charged for nine nights in a room with a hot-tub that didn’t work. One wonders who answered this email. The hotel? District? Corporate?

Last stay before home The staff at the counter asked us to put the dog back in the car because they were not allowed in the lobby. This was the first time I have been told this staying at a hotel with a dog. The hotel was clean and beds were comfortable. Room was quiet and we had a good night sleep. Breakfast was alright, scrambled eggs, sausage links, waffles. They charge a $25 pet fee. On the website site it said $20
