The year 1986 was a health- and fitness-focused one. Mike Tyson became the youngest heavyweight boxing champion in history, smoking was banned on all forms of public transportation, and Being-Fit opened its doors. The gym sought to supply its members with everything they needed to reach their personal fitness goals. Though its equipment has been overhauled, Being-Fit’s mission hasn't changed in the intervening two decades.
Today, the gym's trainers host more than 30 varieties of group fitness classes, including yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, and Zumba. When not in class, students can take advantage of the cardio theater, where favorite shows and video clips of kittens wiping out on treadmills play constantly as people jog in place. Additionally, the gym’s personal trainers construct individualized workouts during one-on-one sessions, equipping members with repeatable exercises crafted to address personal fitness goals.

Q&A with Laura, Owner And Coach
Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
The backbone of CrossFit TurnPoint is our community, which inspires members to come in and sweat together despite how tired they are feeling or how hard the workout appears to be. Our members support one another through every workout by encouraging each other to fight for another rep or a heavier weight.
What's the most radical physical transformation you've seen a client make?
Most beginners who walk in our doors are often intimidated by the heavy weights and the unfamiliar workout movements; however, in just a few weeks those beginners are now the ones cheering on and encouraging the first time visitor. There is a change in both their physical body and their self-esteem. Within a few weeks they are lifting heavier weights, running faster, and doing these things with confidence in themselves and their ability.
Besides working out, what else can clients do to spend their time at your facility?
We offer shower facilities so that clients can wash up after a workout, if they need to.
Watching a lot of TV doesn't have to mean being a couch potato—especially not at Being Fit, where each cardio machine is outfitted with a personal TV. This is just one of the ways that getting fit and having fun intersect at the fitness center, which also hosts a vast array of group classes. In Zumba classes, students of all skill levels torch calories in a dance-party atmosphere. PiYo classes, set to a similarly upbeat soundtrack, mix Pilates and yoga moves. Members also stretch and relax in gentle-yoga classes, which enhance flexibility and teach you that tree pose requires more than a squirrel living in your hair.

True to its name, Balanced Fitness and Health has a wide variety of fitness options to help its guests get fit and feel balanced. Working with a personal trainer is one of the gym's many ways to jump-start a fitness program before diving into the studio's other options, which include group classes, kettlebell workouts, and high-intensity interval training (known as H.I.I.T.). Pilates enthusiasts can choose from mat, springboard, reformer, and circuit class options for their core-crunching and lean-muscle sculpting.
