As a child, Julio Vilar always wanted to photograph his family's gatherings; at every birthday party and family reunion, he'd be the one trying to hold the camera instead of posing in front of it. These days, Vilar snaps shots all over New York City, capturing the dynamic angles and giant sea monsters that fill the city skyline as well as the subtle details of subway stations and neighborhood storefronts. Families, though, still remain his favorite subject. He specializes in family portraiture and infant photography, giving parents tangible memories of their children growing up.
It started with the old Minolta XG-9 film camera his father gave him as a kid. It continues today with his high-tech Canon digital camera—Andrew F. Johnston's passion for photography, that is. Andrew's excitement for the art is evident in all of his photo shoots for families, couples, and individuals. He captures exhilarating, memorable moments at his professional studio and on-location around the New York City area.
Kesha Lambert Photography and the AboutFace Makeup Artist Network teamed up to create Lash to Lens, a one-stop shop for customized portraiture and modern lifestyle photography. Published in the New York Times, Boston Herald, and OK! magazine, Kesha Lambert and her supporting cast of savvy shutterbugs create a relaxed and fun environment for capturing life’s most memorable moments, whether it be a candid family photo, a sizzling boudoir portrait, or a reproduction of The Last Supper starring a litter of beagles. Each session is tailored to the client’s style and personality, incorporating clever props and interesting locales to create a customized photo shoot as unique as the subjects it snaps. AboutFace’s senior makeup artist, Charlene Armstrong, uses top-quality beauty products to hide blemishes, eliminate shine, conceal red eyes, and distract attention from obtrusive bunny ears, resulting in camera-ready countenances.
Hailing from the Dominican Republic, Hans Gonzalez moved to the Big Apple to study portraiture, lighting, and composition at the New York Institute of Photography. When he packed for the journey, Hans made sure to take with him his astute attention to detail and warm personality. Today, it’s those same qualities that enable Hans to capture candid, gone-in-an-instant moments between friends, families, and the man that keeps tossing banana peels in their paths. To ensure those fleeting moments get preserved in proper fashion, Hans and his team shoot everything in high-definition with professional lighting, photo, and video equipment.
