Amy Rosenthal is a dog’s best friend. As the owner of Metro Dogs Daycare & Boarding and a lifelong dog lover, she is constantly onsite, overseeing the housing, grooming, and training services her staffers provide for furry pals. Amy’s multifarious background includes studying dog behavior, working for various animal organizations, and lapping up numerous bowls of bacon bits, all of which reinforce her ability to understand pooches and keep them safe, happy, and healthy while owners are away. The facility houses dogs of all sizes inside spacious kennels during overnight stays, and offers plenty of indoor and outdoor play areas for daycare activities, as well as designated areas for older dogs and pets recovering from injuries.
Though it advertises itself as the largest no-kill shelter in the Twin Cities, Animal Ark’s homey facility seems more like a relaxing retreat for the more than 1,000 homeless cats, dogs, and rabbits that come through its doors each year. Cats bask in sunlight within feline apartments as dogs lounge atop soft raised beds in their own spacious kennels, sinking teeth into chew toys and treats. Of course, time at Animal Ark isn't all leisure. Canines awaiting their forever homes stretch their legs across a large outdoor play yard, aptly named the Ark Park, where ample trees and greenery mix with park benches where dogs can train their human friends to sit.
Potential owners can also get to know adoptable pets online. The website posts a first-person profile of each available animal that lists its breed, personality, and master’s degrees.
In a facility with 14,000 square feet of romping room, Dog Days' trained staff monitors fun, friendly play among pooches. In addition to grooming and training pups, the staff also oversees daycare quarters comprised of climate-controlled indoor areas and an outdoor playground ringed with secured fencing. Canines undergo testing for temperament and vocabulary before being divvied up into separate groups according to size. Once at play, they share Kong toys, tennis balls, and colorful playground equipment.
After recreation eats up waking hours, boarded pooches snuggle into comfy suites named for European and tropical getaway locales. Each room has a cozy bed that's cleaned regularly. Staffers also wipe down toys, play equipment, and bowls every night with cleaning solution to ensure a safe, healthy environment for their four-legged guests.
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
We care and love your pet like our own. At Otter Lake Grooming, your pet is an individual, and very special to us. In our never-ending quest for excellence we believe that quality training and development and continuous improvements are the factors that allow us to stand out from the rest.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
My pet used to get very stressed while being groomed. We went to many different salons and to no avail, no one had the patience and love for my dog as I did. This is what inspired me to start grooming. I know that with my calm, loving nature, I can help most pets through a stressful experience.
What do you love most about your job?
I love taking care of pets and forming relationships with clients. Developing the bond with both pet and human are very rewarding.
What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
"Pebbles and I have been going to Marie for years! She loves my dog just as I do and always gives me a full report. Never have I met a groomer with so much heart. I wish we met her much sooner! Thank you for your amazing services, Marie! See you next visit!" ~ Diane & Pebbles
