ClubSport embodies the ideal of a health club rather than a box gym. Of course, you'll find all the group fitness classes, personal trainers, and equipment you'd expect from a gym, but what sets ClubSport apart is the focus on creating a space where friends and families can relax and play together. Kids and adults can enroll in swimming classes and aquatic fitness, folks can meet up for peer-powered workshops such as the Member Detox Week, and guests can relax at the spa during a pumpkin oil massage.
Helmed by a staff of black belts, MMA fighters, wrestlers, and physical-education experts, Smash Gyms helps its clients perfect their fitness routine at two San Jose?area locations. Guests can learn self-defense techniques and combat moves as they sculpt their bodies during jujitsu or kickboxing classes, or take a more conventional approach with kettlebell and boot-camp sessions. Smash Gyms' fitness gurus also offer training classes for children in disciplines such as wrestling and Brazilian jujitsu.
The fighters of Checkmat, an international jiu-jitsu team founded by multiple-competition champions Vieira brothers, lead the charge in instructing students at
LUTE! Training Academy. They introduce the basic strikes and submission techniques of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in a motivational, team-based environment designed to build mental discipline and fortitude. Meanwhile, former two-time Olympian and MMA professional Daniel Cormier teaches wrestling classes.
Fitness Evolution's gyms span the country, from California to Maryland, hosting hassle-free workouts on their high-quality equipment or in a wide range of group classes led by upbeat instructors. The staff strives to maintain an open, inviting atmosphere at all times, whether helping clients operate free weights or offering encouragement to Aqua Fit and indoor cycling classes. Fitness Evolution conveniently offers some nutritional guidance and exercise training online with goal-oriented workouts, meal plans, and recommendations on the best strategies for going outside.
Smash Gyms' list of instructors reads like a classified roster for some kind of elite instructor squad. The kickboxing instructor, Sam "The Ram" Spengler beats people insensate as a professional MMA fighter when he's not teaching junior-high students. Michael Jen, a third-degree black belt, engineered his own method of teaching Brazilian jujitsu after practicing the graceful art for 20 years.
What they share is a love of teaching. Jen draws on his wealth of experience studying under renowned teachers such as Roy Harris and Joe Moreira to impart his wisdom and high kicks to students. "The Ram" leads upbeat, fun kickboxing classes to help pupils reach their fitness goals, such as losing weight or being able to roundhouse kick the tempting ice cream offered to them.
