Before Hayden Panettiere starred as a cheerleader with superpowers in NBC's Heroes, she had to train for the role. Her training grounds: West Coast Rush Cheerleading. Helmed by Carlos and Jennifer Onofre, the center taps into the owners' combined 35 years of cheerleading experience to instill students with the agility and athletic prowess needed for the demanding sport. Classes range from beginning tumbling, which focuses on the basics—such as round-offs, back walkovers, and front handsprings—to flight school, which zeroes in on flexibility and growing the wings that all championship cheerleaders possess.
Hugo Cherre is an expert when it comes to teaching gymnastics to children, for he was once a child gymnast himself. The owner of Hugo's Gymfitness has been practicing the sport his entire life, a devotion that culminated in becoming the National Gymnastics Champion of Peru and a member of the U.S. gymnastics team in the 1984 Olympics. He employs his expertise to help his students reach their goals, whether they want to compete internationally or learn how to cartwheel their way out of a fight.
In addition to gymnastics, Hugo leads programs in cheerleading, dance, martial arts, and even rock climbing. His facilities are well equipped to host such a wide variety of sports, outfitted with foam pits, a tumbling floor, a climbing wall, and a spectator area where parents can watch and cheer.
Starting kids as young as 12 months on the path to strength
and confidence, the instructors at Fun & Fit Gymnastics hope to build foundations that will shape
their students for the good. The philosophy here centers around finding the best class for each child. In that process, instructors pair
kids with others of similar age and ability levels to develop not just athletic skills, but
social ones too. The enormous facility also contributes to the curriculum, with a 50-foot spring-suspended tumbling floor, beams, bars, vaults, trampolines and a 5-foot-deep foam-filled pit used for fun and to enhance safety.

Q&A with the President of Golden State Gymnastics
I'm a first-timer. How do you get me ready for the experience?
We send a welcome and information email that details how to register online, how to e-sign our waiver form, and what to wear and bring. We advise people to arrive in time to find parking.
As the old adage says, "Stuff happens." What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?
All staff members are CPR/First Aid and USA Gymnastics Safety Certified, as well as fingerprinted and background checked. Staff members attend regional and national level training. We have a disaster plan in place and conduct periodic disaster drills on site so that we are prepared for emergencies.
What is the experience customers can expect, and how do you make it special?
Our mission is to offer a fun, safe and healthy gymnastics experience by providing the highest quality instruction and encouraging atmosphere to every child who walks through our doors. We want your child's favorite day of the week to be at Golden State Gymnastics. A highlight of the week is the inflatable water slide during water play. This year, the slide is scheduled for two days each week!
My Gym, which currently has more than 200 international locations, began more than 20 years ago as a structured place for children to safely play, acquire new skills, and romp off a sugar buzz. All classes are organized according to age level—starting as young as 6 months—and designed to incorporate the latest physiological and psychological research. Tiny Tykes gets babies moving with help from their parents, Mighty Mites teaches toddlers self-reliance and beginning sports skills, and Champions, a class for kids aged 6 to 9, emphasizes the importance of using teamwork to master more complex sports skills and achieve group goals such as building a human pyramid to reach the cookie jar. My Gym's energetic instructors are experts at using music, dance, and gymnastics to build youngsters' strength and self-esteem while stimulating their giggle-plexes. The noncompetitive environment fosters creativity, and hands-on activities boost children's learning retention and fun quotient. My Gym also welcomes parents to come, relax and have fun, keeping a kids-music-free atmosphere.
