  • KinderCare
Like most parents, Cyndi R. doesn't like to take chances with her child's wellbeing. By the time her son was 13 months old, Cyndi had interviewed roughly 20 childcare providers—but she noticed something different when she walked into the local KinderCare. The staff here greeted every child by name and, as she peeked into each of the classrooms, Cyndi noticed engaged instructors leading one-on-one lessons. The center's Assistant Director even took the time to answer all of her questions, both before and after she decided to enroll her son. The thing is, this isn't a unique experience. KinderCare now has more than 1,700 centers, and parents across the country share similar thoughts on their local educators. To hear them tell it, it's the commitment of those teachers that makes all the difference. Twice a year, KinderCare hosts the largest early childhood teacher-training program in the country, and every center pursues national accreditation. All of this translates into the development of social, emotional, physical, and intellectual skills in infants and children up to 12 years old. That may seem like a lot of skills to entrust a daycare with, but KinderCare is more than just a daycare—in fact, it's better to think of it as a learning center. During daycare, kindergarten, and before- and after-school programs, KinderCare's educators lead activities that focus on six different areas, including math and science, language and literacy, and the art of opening a tricky juice box.

  • Vector Academics
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? Our tutors are full-time college lecturers—not college students working a summer job. Our Bootcamp class sizes are small (10 students maximum) and in-class Bootcamp instruction is supported by office hours, refresher seminars, and multiple other included services. Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring? All study materials are provided—though students might want a pen to take notes! The curriculum we provide to students was designed by our Academic Coordinator, a test-prep veteran with a decade of experience, and is customized for each student to target problem areas and reinforce skills. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? After much experience in the test-prep industry, we became familiar with its traditional practices, and believed we could do things better, and with more of a focus on the individual student. We thought that students deserved richer instruction that was more tailored to their individual needs. What do you love most about your job? As career educators, we do whatever we can to help students accomplish their goals—big and small. Our goal is to give students transferrable skills that can serve them not just on one test, but throughout their lives. Hearing from former students that we've achieved this goal is our greatest reward.

  • Spectrum Languages
At Spectrum Languages, the staff believes that students learn best when language lessons are enjoyable, engaging, and interactive. So instead of staid classroom activities such as endless verb conjugation drills, the staff relies on more creative techniques such as games that boost students' conversational skills. Programs run the gamut from the children's Little Linguists classes to adult conversation classes, and they're customized to each student to ensure optimal knowledge retention. School-aged students can receive tailored private tutoring sessions, and corporate personnel can benefit from custom business programs. These programs send language instructors directly to the office to teach basic conversational skills that will come in handy during international business trips or when conversing with one's Italian briefcase.
