In 2007 they opened the winery, where they sell their wines and swap stories with visitors. Amid 10 acres of expansive grapevines, a timber-frame barn houses the winery and tasting room. While sipping Sleepy Creek's varietals, guests can browse the gift shop, peruse the upstairs art gallery, and sample local cheeses from Ludwig Farmstead Creamery and Ropp Jersey Cheese.     What does 31 years of hard work and dedication get you? In the case of Dr. Charles Thomas, founder of Chateau Thomas Winery, the answer to that question is lots and lots of wine: 15,000 cases of wine each year to be exact, accounting for some 50 varietals. It wasn't easy to reach that impressive statistic. Before opening the winery in 1984, the doctor studied the finest French wines he could track down, took formal winemaking and tasting classes, and studied with some of Napa Valley's renowned winemakers. Today, the Thomas team stays committed to exceptional standards. The winemakers source only old world grapes grown in California, Oregon, and Washington. They produce 50 different varietal wines from those grapes such as merlot, sauvignon blanc, and zinfandel. They created Slender wines, low-calorie varietals made with natural Zerose sweeter rather than melted candy bars.

    When Harmony Winery co-owner Kevin Croak was a teenager growing up on Long Island, he experimented with making wines from sugar and the juice of wild berries. "I used to hide them in the cemetery behind my house, hoping my dad wouldn't find them," Croak told the Indianapolis Star. "But I didn't understand about fermentation, and the bottles blew up." Luckily for visitors to the cozy tasting room and winemaking studio, Harmony Winery has mastered all aspects of the vino-crafting process. Now, they invite their guests to do the same through fun, informative classes and you-make-it bottling sessions. Clients stop in to sample some of Harmony's 35 different vintages amid luxurious leather sofas, a warm fireplace, and friendly company, pairing their wines with fine chocolates and seasonal dinner selections. Guests can cozy up to a tasting bar or commune in an event space outfitted with a big-screen TV and surround sound. Aspiring vintners hone their crafts with the winery's extensive selection of supplies, which includes custom labels for weddings or holidays, bohemian-crystal decanters for letting wine breathe, and vacuum pumps for trapping wine-spoiling poltergeists. Harmony Winery also demonstrates how cost-effective and healthy homemade wine can be, and how self-crafted vino can have lower levels of tannin and sulfites.

    A jug of dandelion wine?fermented in 1994?marked the beginnings of Traders Point Winery. The winery's vintner, Bill, was just beginning to delve into amateur winemaking at the time, working in the century-old root cellar beneath his historic home. He kept at the craft in the years that followed, learning to create wines using a variety of techniques. Eventually, he entered a few bottles into the Indy International Wine Competition, earning praise from judges as well as everyday wine-lovers wearing judge costumes in order to receive free tastes. Bill and his family decided to take the next step and open their own winery. Today, they welcome guests to sample award-winning varietals at their Indianapolis winery. They pour glasses of crisp chardonnay, sweet red wine made from concord grapes, and citrusy seyval. There are plenty of dessert wines, too, including a 50/50 blend of Rhubarb and Strawberry.
